  4. Mrs. Cent Foldable • Fold the foldable hot-dog style • Only glue down the gray shaded column onto the next open page of your composition book. • Add the foldable to your table of contents. • Use the chart from today’s reading, week 11 vocabulary, or the next slide to complete the foldable.

Mrs. Cent Foldable COMPLETE THE FOLDABLE USING THE INFORMATION BELOW: • MECHANICAL- energy generated through movement • RADIANT (light or solar)- the energy of electromagnetic waves. • SOUND-vibration that moves through a solid, liquid, or gas to our ears • CHEMICAL- energy released from chemical reactions • ELECTRICAL- energy generated through electricity • NUCLEAR- energy released during a nuclear reaction, generally fusion or fission • THERMAL(heat)- energy that changes the temperature of an object.

The sun is the source of almost all the energy on earth. The tiny animals get their energy from plants, which get their energy from the sun.

Penny on a Bottle Follow these directions with your partner: • Hold the neck of the bottle in the ice water for a few seconds. • Place the penny over the mouth of the jar. • Place some oil around the bottles opening or on the penny in order to provide a completely air tight seal. • Now hold bottle in your hands and carefully observe the penny

  9. Penny on a Bottle At first the air inside the bottle is cold, so the air molecules are closer together When you hold the bottle, heat energy from your hands warms the air in the bottle The air then moves more, pushing against the bottle, including the penny at the top, causing it to move.

Name that Energy Form • The ball is less dense than the water, so the water pushes the ball back to the surface. • The electrons in the magnet are attracted to the iron in the paperclip. • This attractions pulls the paperclip to the magnet. • The dish soap causes the fat in the milk to break down and move away from the other fat particles. • The food coloring lets us see the movement caused by the reaction between the soap and the fat. • Striking the tuning fork causes air molecules to bounce between the two forks. This creates sound and moves the ping pong ball.
