  11. e-SI addresses 4 categories of e-skills: • IT/IS developer – the traditional technical skills area • Organisational User – users of developed approaches in work based situation • ICT management – organisational strategic leadership in future positioning • Societal; individuals, groups and communities – peer to peer, user to organisations

  12. Sectors • e-SI seeks to co-ordinate e-skills development & delivery in 4 sectors of society: • Corporate, Business, Industry • Academia: HEIs, FET Colleges – curriculum and research • Civil society, NGOs, community organisations • Government: national, provincial and local

  18. e-Skills Action Plan What are the main issues that policy makers need to understand? How do we strengthen the role of all stakeholders sector groups? ANSWER: We build an inclusive approach that engages all stakeholder groups in developing an e-Skills Action Plan

  20. Summit philosophy • It is about providing a ‘playing field’ where more people/agencies can meet their e-Skills objectives by being more • accountable, • measurable, • demonstrable, • engaged • collaborative (MSP’s) • visible, and • exciting.

Three major components • Path to the Summit • public dialogue, key areas, seminars, workshops, ‘in-house’ • The Summit itself • theme & focus area plenary sessions • Inform, demonstrate debate • delivery, policy, integration, impact, evaluation • 3. e-Skills Exposition • display, demonstrate & present

Targeted participants • High level govt & SOE reps - e-skills • Business, Corporates – e-skills • Policy makers – e-Skills • Civil society, NGO’s etc – delivering e-Skills • Higher Education, FET, DE & private providers • International agencies – UNESCO etc • International funders • Researchers • Friends of Africa

  23. E-skills summit All with legitimate interests are welcome. The Summit will be positioned in a way that allows all stakeholders to demonstrate their contribution to the e-Skills agenda.

  27. What we have done • Developed concept under a mandate • Engaged sectoral interests • Established a structure • Started a process for the Path to the Summit • Call for papers – academic, business, policy, community case studies etc

Current e-SSSA Ambassadors • Dr Tatiana Ershova; Director General the Institute for the Information Society, Russia & high level advisor to the Global Alliance on ICT and development; Editor in Chief of the Journal Information Society. • Professor Nara Kulathuramaiyer(PhD), Dean of the IST Faculty UNIMAS, Sarawak, Malaysia; responsible for the e-Bario Project and the Centre for Rural Informatics which has a RM 4 M project to develop 4 community based e-Bario clones across Malaysia. • Professor Stewart Marshal(PhD), UNESCO Chair in Educational Technologies, Director, Academic Division, The Open Campus The University of the West Indies; Editor in Chief "International Journal on Education and Development using ICT".

  29. Current e-SSSA Ambassadors • Dr Susan Crichton, University of Calgary, Canada. A research leader in educational research for development with a focus on developing areas especially Bhutan and Dar es Salam. • Dr Andy Williamson, Director of Social Engagement, The Hansard Society, London. He has a well developed reputation in processes of societal engagement in government policy development, service delivery and evaluation in many situations but particularly in the UK and New Zealand. • Professor Greg Hearn (PhD), Institute of Creative Industries, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He is an internationally recognised research leader in the use of ICT for creative industries.

  30. Current e-SSSA Ambassadors • Dr Klaus Stoll. CEO Chasquinet – a NFP based in Quito, Ecuador. He specialises in e-skills development in many Latin America countries in South America as well as working with underserved Latin- American communities in the USA. • Dr John Dada. CEO of Fatsuam a NFP organisation that focuses on micro finance approaches for women and youth in rural Nigeria. • Professor Bruce Muirhead (PhD). CEO Eidos Institute. Eidos is a research coordinator and deliverer in evidence based public policy research involving an amalgam of nine universities. .

  31. Current e-SSSA Ambassadors • Professor Yong Bum Cho. Konkuk University(www.kunkok.ac.kr) in Korea. He has participated various projects for ICT skill development for developing nations • Professor Hyun Joo Kim. Myunggi College(www.myunggi.ac.kr) in Korea. His strength lies in the program development for cooperation between ICT training institute and industry and articulation of ICT training between high school and University.

  32. What you can do • Develop in-house, client & collaborator forums, workshops etc to develop inputs into the e-Skills Summit & the development of a National e-Skills Action plan. • Apply your technology, resources to e-facilitate the Summit and the events around it e.g. Tele-presence • Travel for speakers, communities (national, African & international), ambassadors etc to the Summit and the Path to the Summit to widen discussion. • Proof of concept activities with Communities and Universities • Host Shared Knowledge Centres with Universities including Multi-Stakeholder Collaborator Projects with international exchanges • Fund ongoing activities for the Research Network for e-Skills

  34. In summary: • The e-Skills Summit will be A SUMMIT that involves a widely considered preparatory process : • It will not be a conference. • It will allow DoC, its SoE’s and its stakeholders to ‘Shine’. • It will be action and outcome based.
