What is the Baby Boom? • Born 1946-1966 • Big jump in population: 77.3 million • As they have moved through the age pyramid, they have had huge power to change • Examples: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ron Howard, Steve Jobs, Stephen King, Prince Charles, Madonna, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Bill Clinton, George Bush…the list goes on…

  3. How Many?? • Early 1940’s: 400,000/year • Late 1940’s: • end of the 1940’s: • about 32 million babies born in decade • compared with 24 million in the 1930’s • 1954: first topped four million • 1965: four out of ten under 20

  4. Why The Baby Boom? • Low births during depression • Increased employment after depression • Return from war • Pre-birth control

  5. Impacts • Industrialization • Urban sprawl • Road Development • Diversification of cars • Increased consumer demands • Dominant influence on society • Civil rights, social security, 70’s
