  4. Context Clues • Definition- The unknown word is defined with in the sentence or paragraph. • Ex. After complaining about his new job for two long months and being generally unhappy, the disgruntled employee was finally fired by his manager. • A. overworked • B. tired • C. selfish • D. discontented 

  5. Context clues • Example- an example before or after the word suggest the word's meaning. • Ex. Paul surmised that his ex-girl friend wanted to resume their relationship when he heard that she had been asking about him.  He didn't realize that she already had another boyfriend. • A. knew • B. proved • C. guessed • D. verified

  6. Easily confused words • On my wiki page under week 16 know all words by definition. • Keep it simple Ex. accept: receive except: all but vain: conceited vein: blood vessel • You will be using the words in sentence form.

  7. Tone • A list of tone words can be found on my wiki page. • Create simple definitions for identifying the tone Ex. • absurd, farcical, ridiculous: laughable or a joke • sentimental, nostalgic: remembering the good old days

  9. Annotation&Main idea • What is annotation? • What is main idea? • Where can you locate them?

  10. Point of view • Opinion-Is a subjective statement that cannot be verified or proved true or false. • Fact-Is an objective statement that can be proved true or false

  11. Writer's purpose • Expository • Narrative • Descriptive • Persuasive You will be reading a passage and you will identify the correct purpose.
