  4. Energy Reduction Efforts2009 How Did We Do It? Energy Performance Contract Temperature Control Reductions Retro-Commissioning

  5. Energy Reduction Efforts2009 Savings Elementary Schools = 25,090,400 MBTU’S Middle Schools = 9,630,304 MBTU’S High Schools = 25,372,208 MBTU’S TOTAL = 60,092,912 MBTU’S This is equivalent to enough energy to operate four Elementary, two new and one old Middle School and our New High School FREE Savings (60,092,912) MBTU’S = $ 1,602,712 Energy Performance Contract = $- 394,896 Savings from Behavior Modifications and Temperature Control Measures $ 1,207,816

  6. Energy Savings Per Sq. Foot Energy Reduction Efforts2009

  7. Energy Reduction Efforts2009 Environmental Impact 148,165 TONS of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) NOT EMMITTED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. THIS IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

  8. Energy Performance Contract History Recognized opportunity to reduce energy consumption by modernization of facility building systems through Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) Lighting Occupancy Sensors Motors & Fan Drives Water Conservation Utilized State Energy Performance Contract Program to evaluate, interview and select an energy performance contractor Contracts are funded through annual energy savings

  9. Energy Performance Contract History Selected NORESCO for Phase I 2006 18 Schools 7 Energy Conservation Measures Completed April 2007 Selected NORESCO for Phase II January 2010 10 Schools 4 Energy Conservation Measures Estimated Completion April 2011

  10. Energy PerformanceContract Phase II - Update In June 2010 NORESCO initiated Detailed Energy Audit Survey 10 school division facilities - Conway ES, Margaret Brent ES, Hampton Oaks ES, Hartwood ES, Winding Creek ES, Drew MS, AG Wright MS, Brook Point HS, Mountain View HS, and the Professional Development Center Four (4) energy conservation measures (ECM’s) Audit Completion - July 30, 2010 Estimate Approval process Complete by September 2010 Estimate Start Work - November 2010 Estimate Complete Work April 2011

  11. Energy PerformanceContract Energy Conservation Measures Selected ECM #1 - Efficient Lighting ECM #2 - Occupancy Sensors in classrooms, hallways, offices, gyms) ECM #3 - Water Conservation (low flush) ECM #4 - Variable Fan Drives & Efficient Motors for HVAC Equipment Estimated Annual Energy Cost Savings = $199,500.00 per year Guaranteed

  12. New & Future Energy Reduction Efforts Implement School Division Energy Management Plan Approved June 2010 Road Map to Comprehensive Energy Management Goals Utilize Performance Contracting Efforts where applicable Establish Operational Guidelines for temperature settings Establish Operational Guidelines for hours of operation Components Education Waste Reduction & Operational Guidelines Retro-Commissioning Monitoring & Reporting Sustainable Practices for Staff and Students

  13. New & Future Energy Reduction Efforts Retro-Commissioning Efforts Retro-Commission at least one school per year Complete BPHS in FY11 DMS and PRES in FY12 Continue Holiday, Spring & Summer Break Temperature Control Measures Complete Energy Performance Contract (Phase II) Plan Energy Performance Contract (Phase III) Identified in FY11-16 CIP Establish School Division Energy Steering Committee

  14. New & Future EnergyReduction Efforts Energy Star Rating EPA Program helping facility owners protect the environment through superior energy efficiency All New Additions, Renovations and New Construction will be designed to achieve a minimum energy star rating of 75 (out of 100) All existing facilities will be surveyed and be scored Ratings will drive further energy enhancement to physical plant Extend Natural Gas Line to Mountain View HS & Margret Brent ES – FY11

  15. New & Future EnergyReduction Efforts Explore Use of Energy Education Private Consulting Firm Long Term Effort to Identify Unnecessary and/or Excessive Utility Consumption Guarantees 20%+ Annual Savings Cost Paid for from Savings Classroom Education In coordination with Instruction Department Enhance Energy Education Opportunities
