  2. GeoConnections Discovery Portal The Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) is being built by GeoConnections, a partnership of government, industry and academia led by Natural Resources Canada. The Discovery Portal (formerly CEONet), provides a powerful spatial and keyword search engine to discover, evaluate and access data products and services. http://ceonet.gc.ca

  3. GeoConnections Discovery Portal The GeoConnections Discovery Portal (GDP) is the Canadian node cooperating with the North American IDN Node (GCMD) at NASA. IDN_Node: CANADA/CGDI

  4. GeoConnections Discovery Portal • Clients input their data product and service metadata entries using an intuitive English/French HMI. • A team of metadata coordinators assist clients and suppliers by: • Seeking new data and services information for GDP population. • Increasing GDP useage through promotions. • Monitoring content for quality assurance. • Contributing feedback and working on metadata standards development. • Working with system developers to implement improved interface tools, resource tables, etc.

  5. GeoConnections Discovery Portal – IDN Node • Currently the GDP is using CEONet V2.7.1 customized software technology. • The next-generation software (V3) using Oracle 8 is scheduled for a June release. • Style independent output (XML) is planned for V3.1 in the Fall 2002.

  6. GDP/GCMD Content Administration and Metrics English Canadian DIF’s are transferred at the beginning of each month from the Discovery Portal to the IDN’s GCMD node. Export Statistics from September 2001 to May 2002 are: • 92 New DIF’s • 878 Modified DIF’s • 37 Deleted DIF’s

  7. Discovery Portal/GCMD Content Administration and Metrics IDN DIF’s are imported from the GCMD into the Discovery Portal on the 15th of each month. Import Statistics from September 2001 to April 2002 are: • 1470 New DIF’s • 15507* Modified DIF’s • 221 Deleted DIF’s • 120 New Suppliers • 416 Modified Suppliers * Additional field increased number of modifications for November Import

  11. Discovery Portal/IDN Participation and Promotion • IDN and GCMD involvement has continued to be promoted at numerous meetings/presentations with provincial, national and international management; technical representatives, suppliers and infrastructure developers since the Fall 2001. • Reference to the IDN is in the downloadable on-line English/French CGDI Technical Manual on the GDP home page. It is available in both PDF and html formats. The latest update (V2) will feature multiple metadata standards including a DIF to GDP field comparison table.

  12. Discovery Portal/IDN Participation and Promotion • Public Agency Content and Connectivity • CGDI services (including GDP) are promoted and funded 50/50 with other Federal and Provincial agencies • Several national initiatives are participating (Forestry, Geology, Marine) • Focus on supply of data and services is shifting to increasing demand of these services as expressed by “Communities of Practice”. • Recent conferences include: • GeoSask in Regina, Saskatchewan • GeoTec in Toronto, Ontario • Technology in Government Week (gold medal award)
