  3. Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to teach you the basic principles of tracking your work hours on the Tulane University timesheet.

  4. Timekeeping Basics: • It is important that you record your work hours accurately to be in compliance with federal law. Accurately recording time worked is the responsibility of every staff employee! • Each position is designated as being exempt or non-exempt based on duties and federal regulations. • Exempt Status: • Exempt from overtime pay • Record exceptions hours only, such as sick, vacation, and jury duty leave • Non-exempt Status: • Not exempt from overtime pay • Must record actual hours worked each day

  5. A few things about Tulane timesheets: • Timesheets are preprinted with employee information and mailed to the departments. • Each department is responsible for getting the timesheets to each of their employees. • New hires will not have a timesheet for the first pay period they work. It will be necessary for them to complete a blank timesheet.  • The blank timesheet may also be used if an employee loses or does not receive his or her preprinted timesheet.

  6. Where to find blank Tulane timesheets? The standard timesheets used by most Tulane employees can be found at: http://www.tulane.edu/~wfmo/payroll/timesheets.html

  7. Where to find blank Tulane timesheets? (continue)

  8. A few things to remember: • Your department might use a different format for the timesheet or a computerized timekeeping system. Regardless, the principles of recording hours worked are the same. • Each work week stands alone for purposes of calculating overtime. • Timesheets should be completed in a timely manner to ensure compliance with federal payroll and tax regulations. • Non-Exempt and Exempt Monthly Timesheets are due in the Payroll Office by the 5th working day of the following month. • Biweekly Timesheets have prearranged due dates in accordance with Payroll Processing Calendar.

  9. Payroll Processing Calendars (continue) You can obtain the ending dates of pay periods by clicking on the calendar link on this web page.

  10. Payroll Processing Calendars You can obtain the timesheet due dates of pay periods by clicking on the calendar link on this web page.

  11.
