  9. Collaboration Tools – Wikis • Hawaiian word for “quick” • Online workspaces where approved participants can read, write, and edit content and comments • All edits are tracked, leaving a virtual paper trail • Great for group projects or a knowledge base Wiki Geometry

Collaboration Tools - Blogs • An easily created, easily updateable website that allows an author to publish instantly to the Internet • Requires about as much skill as sending an email • The user can post text, pictures, videos, podcasts, hyperlinks, gadgets (calendars, archives, visitor tracking) • Most have custom security features Blogs 2 Cents

Collaboration Tools – Discussion Forums • Each discussion begins with a question or a prompt • Forum members reply to the initial post, with each post forming another part of an online conversation • A great source for finding technical information • Many are free, like Google Groups or Yahoo Groups

  12. Types of Web 2.0 – Aggregators • RSS: Really Simple Syndication • The ability of Web content to be shared and republished • Aggregator News Reader • A web-based or computer-based program to allow users to have “subscriptions” delivered automatically and all to one place
