  15. The Dark Ages John Wycliffe (1320-1384) translated scripture into English so common people could read it. Religious leaders were so angry at him for making the Bible available, they dug up his grave, gathered his dried bones and burned them and threw the ashes into a river.

  16. The Dark Ages William Tyndale(1494-1536) made another translation of scripture into English so common people could read and understand it. He was strangled to death by religious leaders and burned at the stake.

  17. The Dark Ages In 1603 King James came to the throne in England and ordered the development of an English translation of the scriptures which could be used in every English church and understood by every common man. It is known today as the King James Bible.

  21. Our Authority The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.
