  1. Done by Devante, Davon, Malik, and Tyrell. Jupiter For president

  2. Facts about Jupiter • Jupiter has a mass 318 times greater than the Earth's and a diameter that is 11 times larger. • Jupiter rotates faster than any planet in the Solar System. • It rotates so quickly that the days are only 10 hours long. • Unlike other planets, Jupiter sends out a strong radio radiation that can be detected on Earth. • In 1994, pieces of a comet called shoemaker-Levy 9 broke apart and crashed into Jupiter. This left patches in Jupiter's atmosphere that lasted for many months.

  3. More information • Jupiter's atmosphere is composed of about 90% hydrogen and 10 % helium. There are only minute traces (0.07%) of methane (CH3), water, ammonia, and rock dust. The outer mantle is liquid hydrogen; the inner mantle is liquid metallic hydrogen.

  4. NASA research missions (Past) Past Missions • Cassini - NASA/ESA Mission to Saturn via Jupiter • Galileo Orbiter - NASA Mission to Jupiter • Galileo Probe - NASA Mission to Jupiter • Voyager 1 - NASA Mission to Jupiter and Saturn • Voyager 2 - NASA Mission to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and beyond • Ulysses - NASA/ESA Mission to study the solar wind via Jupiter • Pioneer 10 - NASA Jupiter flyby (1973) • Pioneer 11 - NASA Jupiter flyby (1974)

  5. NASA research mission (Future) Future Missions • Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter (JIMO) - NASA Proposed Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto Orbiter (2015) • Juno - NASA New Frontiers Jupiter Polar Orbiter under study

  6. Tilt, year, and day of Jupiter • Day is 10 hours long. • Its tilt is 3.13°. It doesn’t have seasons. • One year on Jupiter is 11.86 Earth years.

  7. Jupiter's moons • Jupiter has 63 confirmed moons!!

  8. Special Features • The Great Red Spot is one of Jupiter's many features. Jupiter also have the most moons of any other planet.

  9. History • The Italian scientist, Galileo was the first astronomer to view Jupiter through a telescope. Galileo discovered Jupiter and three of its moons on January 7, 1610.

  10. Why it should be president. • Not only is it the biggest but its in the middle of the planets. Separating the rocky planets from gas giants like itself.

  11. If it was a person…… • Too big to be a person.
