Disclaimer!

Online collaboration is a fancy way of saying “a group of people trying to complete work toward a common goal via communications technology.”

Jonathan Eyler-Werve, technology consultant who specializes in making technology accessible

SCI KMN

There are a Variety of Collaboration Platforms out there:

The Rick Hansen Institute (RHI) made an in-kind contribution of their SharePoint licence to the SCI KMN.

RHI provides IT and technical support, while the actual creation of the site, design and local administration is performed internally within the SCI KMN.

Working virtually on SharePoint allows all SCI KMN members to:

participate in content creation

host discussions online

share information / files

give feedback / feedforward

automatically archive changes

SharePoint + SCI KMN

Educating the Network

We pre-recorded Online “Webinars” to educate SCI KMN members on how to easily use SharePoint and answer Frequently Asked Questions. Some sample webinars are:

Introduction to SharePoint (20 min)

How to Upload, Download and Modify Documents (8 min)

How to set up Alerts (8 min)

Changing passwords (document)

New SharePoint Tools (8 min)

Transitioning to an Online Workspace

There have been less “new” users each month using the site and now most of the users are “regular” returning users

User Uptake has been Strong

SharePoint has streamlined SCI KMN communication.

  • See the following examples...

...Reducing Email Inbox Traffic!

... Allowing members to work at their own availability

... Search Function allows users to locate documents easily

Conclusion

The SCI KMN’s power lies in it’s Community of Practice:

The SCI KMN SharePoint website facilitates our internal communication.

It organizes our work, tracks our progress and keeps our network motivated from within.

P.S. ...... Keep an eye out for our external website.
