  1. BIBLE INSPIRATION

  2. Bible Inspiration The 1st study in a series of Bible Studies. Studies written by William Carey. Presentation by Michael Salzman. All texts are from the NKJV. All rights reserved.

  3. Bible Inspiration The question of authority is pertinent today. There are many voices heard claiming “This is the way”. Do we have a sure guide to go by? Can we rely upon the validity of the Bible? Is it what it claims to be -- THE WORD OF GOD?

  4. Bible Inspiration “Infidelity prevails in many churches in our land; not infidelity in its broadest sense, an open denial of the Bible, but an infidelity that is robed in the garb of Christianity, while it is undermining faith in the Bible as a revelation from God”Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 166. Naturally this has its influence on our thinking. We need to know for ourselves what the TRUTH IS.

  5. 1 BI Bible Inspiration The Bible is a revelation from God. Thessalonians 2:13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectually works in you who believe. What is the claim the Bible puts forth?

  6. 2 BI Bible Inspiration In what form did God communicate to man? Proverbs 22:20 Have Inotwritten to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge, The written form is enduring and never changes.

  7. 3 BI Bible Inspiration What was God’s Purpose in Giving the Bible? Proverbs 22:17-21 17 – Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart tomy knowledge;

  8. 3 BI Bible Inspiration 18 - For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips, 19 – So that your trust may be in the LORD,Ihave instructed you today, even you. 20 - HaveInotwritten to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge,

  9. 3 BI Bible Inspiration 21 - That I may make you know the certainty of the wordsoftruth, That you may answerwordsoftruth to those who send to you? What was God’s purpose in giving us the Bible?

  10. 4 BI Bible Inspiration How much of the Bible is God’s Word? 2 Timothy 3:16,17 16 - Allscripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, forreproof, for correction, forinstruction in righteousness; 17 - That the man of God may becomplete, thoroughly equipped for everygoodwork.

  11. 5 BI Bible Inspiration How does the Bible describe “inspiration”? Hebrews 1:1,2 1 -God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by theprophets,

  12. 5 BI Bible Inspiration 2 - has in these last days spokento us by his Son, whom Hehasappointed heir of all things, throughwhom also He made the worlds; The Bible comprises the writings of the prophets and the words of Jesus.

  13. 6 BI Bible Inspiration What example is given of this inspired process? Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him, to show His servants--things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel unto His servantJohn,

  14. 7 BI Bible Inspiration Is the prophet like a stenographer taking dictation from God? 2 Peter 1:21 forprophecynever camebythe will of man; but holy men ofGodspoke as theywere moved by the Holy Spirit. They spoke using their own words as they were impressed by the Holy Spirit.

  15. 8 BI Bible Inspiration Is the message a product of man’s mind, or of God’s mind? Galatians 1:11,12 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man,For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

  16. 9 BI Bible Inspiration Would God give the Bible as a guide to man and then permit it to become unreliable? It would not seem reasonable that He would. How does God assure us of the eternal nature of the Word? 1 Peter 1:23-25

  17. 9 BI Bible Inspiration 23 Having beenborn again, not of corruptible seedbut of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and abides forever, 24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls away,

  18. 9 BI Bible Inspiration 25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.“ Nowthis is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. How long is the Word to endure?

  19. 10 BI Bible Inspiration Can we be sure that the Bible is not adulterated with human ideas? The Hebrew word for PURE is REFINED. This is significant in the divine process. Human works, books, texts, etc., have to be revised every ten years to bring them up to date with investigation; but the Bible is revised just the opposite--

  20. 10 BI Bible Inspiration to bring it more into harmony with the original text. Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

  21. 11 BI Bible Inspiration What satisfaction should God’s care in the preservation of His Word give to us? Psalm 119:140 Yourwordisvery pure; Therefore Your servant loves it. The Bible is scientifically correct. Less than one one thousandth of the text has yet to be tested.

  22. 12 BI Bible Inspiration When did God begin to protect and preserve His Word? Psalm 119:160 The entirety of Yourwordistruth. And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

  23. 13 BI Bible Inspiration How does God describe the process used to preserve His Word? Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are purewords, Likesilver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times. Seven is a symbol of perfection.

  24. 14 BIBible Inspiration What assurance does God give us that he will never let His Word become diluted with human ideas? Psalms 12:7 You shall keep them, O Lord, You shall preserve them from this generation forever.

  25. 15 BI Bible Inspiration Did Jesus expect us to have confidence in the Bible? John 5:39 You search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify ofMe. The Bible tells us about Jesus.

  26. 16 BI Bible Inspiration Is the Bible essential to our destiny? John 17:3 Andthis is eternal life, that they might knowYou, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. Yes it is, if we are to know Jesus Christ and gain eternal life.
