  2. How Inspections Help the Safety Program An inspection provides knowledge of hazards and conditions that exist in the workplace, and identifies, equipment and procedures that could be potentially hazardous.

  3. How Does the Annual Inspection Help the DSR? • The DSR may be able to prevent many hazards from occurring through scheduled and documented self-conducted inspections. • DSRs are able to ensure established safe work practices are being followed and that those unsafe conditions or procedures are identified and corrected properly.

  4. Last Note…… Scheduled inspections are conducted in addition to the everyday safety checks that are part of the routine duties of managers, supervisors and DSRs

  5. Where can I find the form that is used for all HCA Safety Inspections? The HCA inspection form is found on the HCA intranet and the same form is used for both quarterly and annual inspections.

  6. Safety Inspection Form Review The General Section GN-01 through GN-12 This area covers different types of safety documentation and material.

  7. Examples of Documentation and Materials • Training Records • MSDS Information • Program Plans • First Aid Kits • Cal/OSHA Logs

  8. Egress EG-01 through EG-05 This area covers aisles, exits, hallways and doors.

  9. Electrical/LightingEL-01 through EL-06 This area covers electrical panels, faceplates, light tubes and extension cords.

  10. Examples of Lighting/Electrical Safety Violations • Exposed light tubes • Extension cords • Exposed wires • Stored items in front of electrical panels

  11. Fire Prevention FP-01 through FP-08 This area covers hazards that may cause fires in the workplace.

  12. Examples of Fire Prevention Safety Violations • Heating elements without on and off mechanisms • Holes in ceilings and walls • Outdated fire extinguishers • Storage items impeding fire sprinkler function

  13. Hazardous Materials HM-01 and HM-02 This area covers hazardous materials found in the workplace.

  14. Examples of Hazardous Material Safety Violations • Flammable liquids stored in unapproved containers • Flammable liquids improperly labeled

  15. Office Environment/HousekeepingOF-01 through OF-09 This area covers common workplace hazards related to storage, general cleanliness, and flooring.

  16. Examples of HousekeepingSafety Violations • Ripped carpet • Secondary containers unlabeled • Cabinets unsecured • Hallways cluttered with stored items • Wires not well managed and causing a tripping hazards

  17. Slip, Trip, and FallsST-01 and ST-02 Inspect all stairs, ramps, tiles…. Ensure they are in good condition

  18. Last but not least…… Make sure all signatures are on the inspection checklist and a comply by date has been established
