  4. PROVINCES • Number of Provinces in the Philippines-81 • Provinces are: A principal administrative division of certain countries or empires.

  5. Officials are: • Governor (23 yrs. on election day) • Vice governor(23 yrs. On election day) • 4-8 SangguiangPanlalawigan Members based on population (23 yrs. On election day)

  6. General Qualifications: • Must be a citizen of the Philippines • Must be a registered voter in the province in which he proposes to be elected • Must be a resident therein for at least one year at the time of the filing of his certificate of candidacy • Must be able to read and write Filipino, English, or any other local language or dialect. • Must be 23 years of age

  7. Functions: • Approve ordinances and pass resolutions necessary for an efficient and effective provincial government • Generate and maximize the use of resources and revenues for the development plans, programs of the province

  8. grant franchises, approve the issuance of permits or licenses, or enact ordinances levying taxes, fees and charges • Approve ordinances which shall ensure the efficient and effective delivery of basic services and facilities • appropriate money for provincial purposes

  9. SALARY and TERM OF OFFICE: • Salary – 28,000 – 35,000 pesos • Term of office- 3 years but not more than 3 consecutive terms

  10. MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT

  11. MUNICIPALITIES • There are 1,494 Municipalities in the Philippines • Municipalities are: town

  12. Officials are: • Mayor • Vice Mayor • SangguniangBayan- 6 members except for Pateros which has 12

General Qualifications • Must be a citizen of the Philippines • Must be a registered voter in the municipality in which he proposes to be elected • Must be a resident therein for at least one year at the time of the filing of his certificate of candidacy • Must be able to read and write Filipino, English, or any other local language or dialect. • Must be 21 years of age

  14. Functions: • Passes ordinances and resolutions for the effective administration of the municipality • Exercise general supervision and control over all programs, projects, services, and activities of the municipal government

  15. Enforce all laws and ordinances relative to the governance of the municipality • implement all approved policies, programs, projects, services and activities of the municipality • Ensure the delivery of basic services and the provision of adequate facilities

  16. SALARY and TERM OF OFFICE: • Salary- 23,000 – 28.000 pesos • Term of office- 3 years but not more than 3 consecutive terms

  17. CITY GOVERNMENT

  18. CITY • Number of Cities-122 • A city is: A relatively large and permanent settlement, particularly a large urban settlement

  19. Officials are: • Mayor • Vice Mayor • SangguniangPanlungsod- there are 10-36 members based on charter (A charter is the grant of authority)

General Qualifications • must be a citizen of the Philippines • Must be a registered voter in the city where he proposes to be elected • Must be , a resident therein for at least one year at the time of the filing of his certificate of candidacy • Must be able to read and write Filipino, English, or any other local language or dialect • Must be 21 years of age

  21. Functions: • Exercise general supervision and control over all programs, projects, services, and activities of the city government • Enforce all laws and ordinances relative to the governance of the city and in the exercise of the appropriate corporate powers

  24. BARANGAY GOVERNMENT

  25. BARANGAY • Number of Barangays- 42,000( more of less) • Barangays are: is the smallest administrative division in the Philippines and is the native Filipino term for a village or district

  26. Officials are: • BarangayCaptian • Kagawad- 7 members excluding the Brgy.captian • SangguniangKabataan- 8 members

  27. General Qualifications: • Must be a citizen of the philippines • Must be a registered voter in the barangay in which he proposes to be elected in • Must be and actual resident of the barangay for at least 6 months immediately preceding the elections • Must be able to read and write

Functions are: • Implement all ordinances, resolutions and laws in the barangay • enforces all the laws and ordinances • Negotiate, enter into, and sign contracts for and in behalf of the barangay • Submit suggestions or recommendations as it may see fit for the improvement of the barangay to the higher local government officials

  29. TERM OF OFFICE: • Term of office- years but not more than 3 consecutive terms
