  1. The following is a suggested example. You must read the directions on your assignment sheet. You must have at least 7 slides (this includes the title slide) and no more than 15 slides max. If you have any questions…ASK!

  2. A Modest Proposalthroughout this power point, you must use techniques from satire (irony, exaggeration, understatement, etc, etc) For solving the plight of homeless people and making them more economical to the American public You must have a title slide

  3. Too many people on the streets with no homes More stuff about the problem; maybe another slide with some sad pictures The Problemclearly define the problem you are going to solve

  4. The Facts(you can choose to use a combination of real numbers with some exaggeration) • Number of homeless children throughout a school-year in Minnesota: 12,581 • 5,284 are under the age of six • 4,874 are enrolled in grades K-8 • 2,423 are enrolled in grades 9-12 • 55% are White • 25% are Black • 12% are Hispanic • 8% are Asian • 0% are Native American You could add a picture here; maybe Include another slide with more numbers

  5. My modest proposal • Seeing that we have so many to provide for, my humble solution will help those that can get a job someday (but really who are we kidding with the current economy) • Let’s turn those that can’t work into soap. • (maybe add a picture here; another slide maybe to hit the point home)

  6. The advantages • List at least 3 advantages to your proposal; here is a good place to make use of satirical techniques • Include some kind of visual for us in these slides; you should only need 3 max

  7. The Expedients—talk to the hand because I ain’t listening • Here is where you list at least 3 REAL ideas that have been tried and failed or tried or suggested for your problem. These will be based on research and this is a good place to really amp up the speaker’s attitude toward these ideas. (remember you are creating a speaker that thinks these are bad ideas, but YOU think these are good ideas) • You will want some visuals of some kind and it might need another slide or two.

  8. The motive • Why are you suggesting this? • Will you benefit? Why or why not? • End with some irony perhaps • A visual of some kind; maybe only need one slide
