  2. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Internet “Security “ When using a public computer, never access any vital accounts like banking. You never know if key loggers or other malicious software was installed on that computer.
  3. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Never open a suspicious email or email from people you don’t know. Viruses or malware can be loaded if you do so.
  4. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Before you click on a web link look at the bottom of your browser as you mouse-over the link. It should be the websites URL you expect it to be, if not, don’t click it.
  5. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME?
  6. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Have multiple passwords. Have a secure password made up of letters, numbers, special characters, upper and lower characters. Make it a nonsense phrase ex. dogsEatFigs!. You should have multiple levels of passwords for different accounts. Ex. Banking, email, facebook – passwords should be different.
  7. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Update your computers software. This includes the operating system and applications. Some hackers target application flaws to infect your computer. Ex. IM and Weather Bug. Many updates include security patches.
  8. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Don’t think that because you don’t have anything important on your computer you don’t need a secure computer. Hackers look for unsecure computers and networks to launch malware and viruses from your location. They could also illegally download music and or movies from your network and you will be blamed for it.
  9. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? BUY a valid antivirus program and keep it up-to date. The latest antivirus programs are better able to detect the latest viruses. Free antivirus programs especially from the internet can include malware that for a fee they will remove.
  10. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Stay out of porn sites. Do you really think that the people who bring you such sites wouldn’t infect your computer?
  11. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Don’t download free software from the internet. Some of this free software contains malware, adware, and viruses. Buy the software from a store.
  12. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME? Never click on links, pictures, videos, emails, etc. you are not completely sure of. The fact is that the most common way a computer gets infected is due to a user clicking something. Simply opening a file can install malware on your computer.

  16. WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM A VICTIM? If you are at work and suspect that your computer has been affected, contact your IT department. Don’t close any pop ups or your browser. Doing so may launch the virus or malware. If you are a victim of internet fraud contact your bank, credit card company, and file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center on-line at www.ic3.gov If you don’t have any internet security software installed on your computer, buy one from a store! If you do, is it up to date? New viruses can get by out dated anti-virus protection.
  17. 10 Ways to be safe on the internet 1. Limit using public computers to access personal information.  2. Never open a suspicious email.  3. Verify the URL.  4. Have Multiple passwords.  5. Update your computer’s software. 6. Keep computer secure . 7. Stay off porn sites. 8. Purchase valid Anti-Virus Software. 9. Don’t download free software. 10. Be cautious clicking on Links, Pictures or Video’s.
