  1. Day Camp Indoor Training Customized for 2010 Sugarbush 3 volunteers!
  2. Who’s Who at Camp Girl Scout Camper Camp Unit Leader Assistant Unit Leader APLs, PALs, PITs (Program Aides) Camp First Aider Camp Director and Assistant Director Camp Business Manager Program Coordinator (Arts & Crafts Team)
  3. Goals for Day Camp Girls decide unit’s activities, where possible Gain new knowledge by learning and practicing outdoor skills Positive encouragement in program participation Learn by doing Work as a group Meet new people! The girls make choices!
  4. Working Together Making Decisions on Day One Girls divide into small groups: to brainstorm ideas or plan (e.g., for Friday’s skit) Unit Leaders may have pre-determined choices: allow girls to vote (e.g., menu for cooking day, unit’s extra activities) What do we do with those clothes pins?
  5. Day Camp Policies Weather Buddy System Safety Rules & Dress Incident/Accident Reports Cell parents. Send girls to HQ to make calls.
  6. Steps to follow Emergency Weather Instructions Car horns and whistles will sound… STOP all activity and take shelter. Assign one leader to report to HQ for Information. Note: Leader should be prepared to call unit campers’ emergency contacts. If you are uncomfortable with the weather but have not heard horns or whistles, seek shelter and notify HQ staff. Extremely frightened girls can accompany an adult to HQ. Attendance is very important. Conduct a headcount once the shelter is reached.

Emergency Weather Instructions Shelter Assignments Shelter by #5 - units #2, #3, #4 and #5 Shelter by #7 - units #8 (Boys), #9, #12 and #13; #10 and #11 when in use Headquarters - units #1, #6, #14 and #16 (Preschool) Note:Units #1 and #14 should take the road to HQ. If weather turns bad on the way be prepared to take cover in nearest ditch. Note: Be prepared for a practice drill on Monday
  8. Other Camp Activities Special All Camp Activities include… Archery Goonie Bird Friday Skits Fun begins at 12:30, on last day of camp at HQ Skits are designed, and performed, by units (girls) Units provide their own props

Programs at Day Camp Typical Schedule for Monday 9:00 Singing Hill (or 8:45, if your Unit is assigned to lead) 9:30 Flag Ceremony 9:45 Adjourn to Units - Clean latrines if assigned; fill water stations 10:00 Review & plan with Unit: Camp rules, respect for others, etc. What to do in an emergency Kaper Chart responsibilities Activities – prescheduled vs. those girls can select Cooking Day – decide menu Friday skit ideas By 11:30 Bring attendance to HQ; pick up juice 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch; quiet time 1:00 - 1:55 Unit activity – craft, badge work, skit selection, etc. 2:00 Clean up; latrines; make ready for the next day 2:15 Leave unit 2:30 Flag Ceremony, announcements

Programs at Day Camp Tuesday - Thursday Schedule 9:00 Singing Hill (or 8:45, if your unit is to lead) 9:30 Flag Ceremony 9:45 Adjourn to units; Kapers: latrines, fill water stations 10:00-noon Unit’s program by 10:30 Bring attendance to HQ; pick up juice 12:00 – 12:30 Lunch/Quiet time at camp 12:30 – 1:55 Unit’s program 2:00 Clean up; latrines; make ready for the next day 2:15 Leave unit 2:30 Flag Ceremony, announcements

Programs at Day Camp Cooking Day Schedule 9:00 Singing Hill (Or, by 8:45 if leading…) 9:30 Flag Ceremony 9:45 Adjourn to Units 9:45 Fill water container for Unit’s fire 10:00 Build & light fire! 10:30 Start food preparation; make ready snacks by 10:30 Attendance to HQ / pick up juice 12:30 - 1:30 Enjoy the meal (quiet time) 1:00 Heat water for dishwashing 1:30 Wash those dishes; hang dip bags to dry 2:00 Latrines; make ready for the next day 2:15 Leave Unit 2:30 Flag Ceremony and announcements
  12. Programs at Day Camp Friday’s Schedule 9:00Singing Hill 9:30 Flag Ceremony 9:45 Adjourn to units for Kapers, fill water stations 10-11Unit’s program - final skit practice? (By 10:30… attendance to HQ / pick up drinks) 11:00 Early lunch 12:00 Take down unit & pack for home deliver to shed: camp supplies, water station, unit’s shelter 12:30 Meet at HQ for end of week show!

Pre-Planning by Unit Leaders Identify key events for Unit’s schedule Singing Hill, leading, practicing songs Flag ceremonies Latrine duty, other Kaper jobs Badge, Sugarbush Toe tasks Naturalist, archery, other group sessions Friday skits, HQ craft, etc. Choose crafts, potlatches Decide Unit’s name, sign, name tags Make kaper chart for your unit Select cooking day meal options Factor in transitions (clean up, travel time), breaks

Decisions to make about the Cooking Day Purpose – experience for girls What to cook - keep it simple Time allotted for fire, meal Familiar cooking, something new Cooking group (Kapers) Food storage Seasonal foods What should scouts bring from home? Hint: Plan an activity for campers not cooking (Ex: easy potlatch)

Unit Budget Camp Registration Fee Use for ‘consumable items’ only: Program supplies Cooking Day foods Other snacks Reimbursement: All receipts must be turned in by Thursday PM in order to get your refund by the close of camp. Important: Reimbursements will be made only when a dated store receipt is submitted & and an expense report is submitted.

Camp First Aid First Aid at Camp Health screening – on first day First Aid kits Pink health forms - for all campers, leaders, preschoolers, boys who attend camp, visitors When a girl needs to visit the Camp First Aider use 3 girls Safety precautions - stay on paths, no running Injury / incident forms - report any strange incident affecting a child First aid form summary And, remember to not smoke during camp
