Overview of Pilot Projects

Jive Pilot (Region 8)

Jive version used 4.5

  • Jive was demonstrated to EPA R8 in mid July 2010

  • We decided to pilot the Jive software and start using in July 2010

  • Found out that EPA HQ would like to include our pilot in and overall comparison study of social media tools in mid September 2010

  • Our goal in piloting (still ongoing) Jive

    • Determine if we could track high priority activities for internal and external communications

    • Determine if we could use the Social Media tool for real-time communications

    • Find out if we could really have a tool that could break down walls and silos if used

    • Determine if the tool was easy to use, scalable, brainless (but extremely effective and functional)

Scoring and Findings

Jive : 86Connections: 114Liferay: 68

Lotus Connections slightly surpassed the other tools in breadth of functionality, security, and interoperability with EPA’s existing email and portal systems.

These factors, combined with the stability and strong market position of IBM make Lotus Connections a good choice as an Enterprise Social Networking standard for EPA.
