Organizations are like…

People !?

Every person is a unique individual

But all people…

  • Breathe in oxygen

  • Breathe out carbon dioxide

  • Need food and liquid to subsist

  • These are Commonalities

All Organizations are unique

  • Each has its own set of values

  • Culture

  • Strengths & Weaknesses

Commonalities of Organizations

  • Purpose for existence

  • Rules or procedures

  • Task assignments

  • Means of communication

  • Hierarchy of authority

Regardless of the Organization:

  • Microsoft

  • WIU

  • Three Stooges Fan Club

    Those commonalities exist.

Knowledge of organizations is important no matter…

  • What organization you work in

  • How old you are

If you want to succeed in your career…

  • You have to know how the ‘game’ is played

Organizational Behavior

  • Prediction and control of human behavior
