  1. Social Studies By: Olivia Chatfield

  2. Social Studies How do you feel about your social studies experience this year? Well I feel that it has been really fun learning social studies this year because we have done a lot of simulations and activates that have been fun learning experiences. We get to make our own reviews which gets me a higher score on my test. The tests are really fun because on all the test theirs an activity that could be like making a song, showing what the slaves went through, and explaining every single detail you have in your head about the unit. And if you win best review, you either win a chocolate bar or a free homework pass. What is the most important thing that you have learned about American History this year? Well I think there are a couple things that I have learned about American History this year, such as, trading, finding the Americas (finding the U.S.A), all about slaves and what they went through, and the middle passage. I found out that Christopher Columbus wasn't the first person to find America, because American Indians first lived here before anyone came over from Europe or anywhere. I also learned that people from different countries traded furs, slaves, and jewels, etc. Also that slaves were held captive in America mostly working on plantations and if their owner was “kind” enough he/she would pay the slave, and someday the slave might be able to buy his freedom. And the Middle passage was where about 600 slaves all were jam-packed into a small boat chained together going to different countries from Africa to be enslaved slaves. What has been your favorite activity in Social Studies this year? My favorite activity has been that simulation we did where we went to church and listened. We went to the college of William and Mary, but the girls went to Dame school and we weaved. Then we went to the shoemakers shop and traced our foot on paper then cut it out and put our names on it. We also went to the Raleigh Tavern and had “Peanut soup and Shepard's Pie” (pretzels). We also sang and danced to Juba. What is your overall individual for this class My overall individual for this class was to get high test scores on all my Social Studies tests, I have gotten pretty high scores on my tests and I plan to try and get 100% on at least one. And if I get 100% on one test, I will try and get 100% for all the rest of the Social Studies tests. I also want to win the best review and get a homework pass. And reread the whole unit before the test.
