The IWB unpacked • Whiteboards aren’t just for the teacher • Teaching assistants with a individuals, pairs or small group of children. • Finish a task started in the mental/oral starter • Begin a new task in the main activity more appropriate to their needs • Small groups of children may use the board

  4. Not just for the teacher! The IWB unpacked • The whiteboard activity may be… • partially completed for a group or teaching assistant to complete with a group • the stimulus for working with the Primary Strategy ITPs, e.g. number and investigational work on laptops or in an ICT suite

The IWB unpacked • Imagine a box • You will need some imaginary quick drying paint. • Imagine a cereal packet standing on the kitchen table. • Paint the front of the packet red. • Now paint the back red. • Paint the top and bottom of the packet red and the other two faces blue. • Now study the packet carefully. • How many edges has the packet altogether? • How many of these edges are where a red face meets a blue face? • How many edges are where a red face meets another red face? • How many edges are where a blue face meets another blue face? The IWB unpacked • Using the shape game website, pull out an example • of each shape and ask… • What do we know about each of these shapes? • What are their names? • What do you notice about the angles of each shape? • What do you notice about the length of their sides? • What information about the shapes can we use to help us find the angles of other shapes?

The IWB unpacked • Year 5/6 main activity using pattern block angles • Look carefully at each shape, what do you already know about them? • Do you already know the internal angles of any of the shapes? Which ones? • Can you use the pattern blocks to find the other angles and explain to your partner how found them?
