  3. How does the filth of sin stain us? • By the sins we commit • By the natural effects of sin in this world. • By the sins that are committed against us I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities - Ezekiel 36:25

And then it opens the door to false inferences. Statement of Concern by Evangelical Leaders I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. - John 15:5-6 New Revised Standard Version

Gender-Neutral Bible He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. - Psalms 34:20 New American Standard John 19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," He keeps all their bones; not one of them will be broken - Psalms 34:20 New Revised Standard Version

  8. Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” - 2 Peter 1:20-21 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. - Proverbs 30:5 But he answered, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. - Matthew 4:4

  9. Sexual issues are tearing our churches apart today as never before. The issue of homosexuality threatens to fracture whole denominations, as the issue of slavery did a hundred and fifty years ago. We naturally turn to the Bible for guidance, and find ourselves mired in interpretative quicksand. Is the Bible able to speak to our confusion on this issue?...Some passages that have been advanced as pertinent to the issue of homosexuality are, in fact, irrelevant. … (Genesis 19:1-29, Judges 19-21.) has nothing to do with the problem of whether genuine love expressed between consenting adults of the same sex is legitimate or not. Likewise Deut. 23:17-18 must be pruned from the list, …Several other texts are ambiguous.…

  10. Paul's unambiguous condemnation of homosexual behavior in Rom. 1:26-27 must be the centerpiece of any discussion. No doubt Paul was unaware of the distinction between sexual orientation, over which one has apparently very little choice, and sexual behavior, over which one does. … Paul knew nothing of the modern psychosexual understanding of homosexuals as persons whose orientation is fixed early in life, or perhaps even genetically in some cases. For such persons, having heterosexual relations would be acting contrary to nature, "leaving," "giving up" or "exchanging" their natural sexual orientation for one that was unnatural to them.Homosexuality and the Bible by The Rev. Dr. Walter Wink Romans 1:26-27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

  12. What is Easter About? • How much God loves us • A time to remember when God gave His Son for us • When Jesus made a way of salvation for us

  13. How much God loves us A time to remember when God gave His Son for us When Jesus made a way of salvation for us What Did He Die For? to Be a Sacrifice For Our Sin

  14. There Is a FountainThere is a fountain filled with bloodDrawn from Immanuel’s veinsAnd sinners plunged beneath that floodLose all their guilty stains

  15. At the CrossAlas! And did my Savior bleed? And did my Sovereign die?Would He devote that sacred headFor sinners such as I?

  16. Are You Washed in the BloodAre you washed in the blood? In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb

  17. Nothing but the BloodWhat can wash away my sin?Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again?Nothing but the blood of Jesus.O precious is the flowthat makes me white as snowNo other fount I know,Nothing but the blood of Jesus

  18. Blood in the Bible • Mentioned 309 times in the Old Testament • Mentioned 92 times in the New Testament Hebrews 9:22 Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

  19. Atonement:“at-one-ment” Hebrews 9:22 Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Leviticus 17:11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.

  20. I have challenged the adequacy of the phrase: "Jesus died for my sins."… The Eucharist assumes it, many of our hymns reflect it. Yet to the modern mind this phrase, when analyzed, is all but nonsensical.Sometimes this sacred phrase is expanded to include what surely can only be described as a fetish about the blood that Jesus shed on the cross. To that "sacred" blood incredible power has been attributed. Christians have gone so far as to talk about the cleansing effect of being washed in this blood. One hymn that I endured twice during Holy Week proclaims that "God on Thee Has Bled." The death of Jesus is said to have been something God required: a ransom, a sacrifice offered to God, a payment demanded by God for the sins of the world, the price required to achieve atonement, which is the experience of being at one with God.

  21. In my studies I have come to the conclusion that this language, "Jesus died for my sins," is a violent distortion of the meaning of Jesus. It offers me a God who is sadistic and bloodthirsty. A God whose will is served by a human sacrifice is not a God I would ever be drawn to worship. It is rather a grotesque idea. Yet this concept has become so normative in the way that our faith story is told that many people seem to feel that if this understanding of the saving work of Jesus is not accepted, then there is nothing of substance left to Christianity.

  22. I am convinced, however, that exactly the opposite is true. To me it is obvious that unless we expose the barbaric quality of this ancient interpretation of the meaning of Jesus' death and of the God who was said to have required it and remove this spiritual monstrosity from the Christian enterprise then Christianity has no future. I do not believe that modern men and women will ever find appealing a God whose will is served by the human sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

  23. “I do not believe that modern men and women will ever find appealing a God whose will is served by the human sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.” “A God whose will is served by a human sacrifice is not a God I would ever be drawn to worship. It is rather a grotesque idea. “

  24. Why the Shedding of Blood? Because your sin is grotesque and a profound offense to a holy God and should never be taken lightly Luke 22:20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

  25. Hebrews 8:6-7,13But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.…By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

  26. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. “ - Hebrews 10:4-6 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. - Psalms 51:16-17

  27. With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. - Micah 6:6-8
