  1. Do Not Look At Worthless Things Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness. 37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way. Psalm 119:36-37

  2. Do Not Look At Worthless Things • Do not look upon a woman to lust after her. Matthew 5:28; 2 Samuel 11:2-4; Job 31:1 Note: The same warning can be given to women

  3. Matthew 5:28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. We are inundated with immodest dress, both live and in advertising. We must be careful of our eyes and our lust.

  4. 2 Samuel 11:2-4 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king's house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 3 So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, "Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" 4 Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house.

  5. Job 31:1 I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman? Guard your heart by making a covenant with your eyes not to gaze intently upon a woman.

  6. Do Not Look At Worthless Things • Do not look upon a woman to lust after her. Matthew 5:28; 2 Samuel 11:2-4; Job 31:1 Note: The same warning can be given to women • Do not look on the wine. Proverbs 23:31-32; 20:1; 23:33-35; 1 Peter 4:1-3

  7. Proverbs 23:31-32 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; 32 At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper.

  8. Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

  9. Proverbs 23:33-35 Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. 34 Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying: 35 “They have struck me, but I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?”

  10. 1 Peter 4:1-3 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles--when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.

  11. Do Not Look At Worthless Things • Do not look upon a woman to lust after her. Matthew 5:28; 2 Samuel 11:2-4; Job 31:1 Note: The same warning can be given to women • Do not look on the wine. Proverbs 23:31-32; 20:1; 23:33-35; 1 Peter 4:1-3 • Do not look behind you. (Lot’s Wife) Genesis 19:17, 26; Hebrews 12:1-2; 11:13-16

  12. Genesis 19:17, 26 (17) So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.” (26) But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

  13. Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

  14. Hebrews 11:13-16 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. 15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

  15. Conclusion Remember, we will not turn our eyes away from gazing upon vain things unless we first stretch out our heart toward the word of God. Colossians 3:5,16

  16. Colossians 3:5, 16 • Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. (16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
