  2. What are the Intolerable Acts? • The Intolerable Acts were laws British passed to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party.

  3. Rules passed by the Intolerable Acts • Massachusetts colonists could not hold town meetings more than once a year without the governor’s permission. • Customs officers and other officials could be tried in Britain or Canada instead of in Massachusetts. • A new Quartering Act said colonists must house British soldiers in their homes. • The port of Boston was closed.

  4. Taxes people are mad about • Today people are mad about gas tax, cigarette tax, and coffee tax. • Today, people write emails, and letter to the government “state representative” to protest against the tax.
