  1. Chapter 01Fundamental Concepts of Chemistry Topic to be discussed Mass - Mass Relationship

  2. Mass - Mass Relationship If 30 gm of calcium carbonate is reacting with excess amount of hydrochloric acid, how many grams of carbon dioxide can be produced? To solve the above questions we need to make two assumptions: • Reaction is 100% completed. • No side reaction.

  3. Mass - Mass Relationship 2HCl + CaCO3 CO2 + H2O + CaCl2 44 36.5 100 Amount of Compounds in the equations: 44g 73g 100g Step1: calculate Mr of every compound involved in the reaction i.e: HCl, CaCO3 and CO2 and check the balancing of equation. Step2: calculate the amount of every compound involved in the equation

  4. Mass - Mass Relationship 2HCl + CaCO3 CO2 + H2O + CaCl2 Step3: Apply unitary method. From the balance equation: 100 g CaCO3 produces = 44 g CO2 1 g CaCO3 produces = 44 /100g CO2 30 g CaCO3 produces = (44 /100) 30g CO2 = 13.2 g CO2 Answer: 30 g CaCO3 will produce 13.2 g CO2
