So what can I tell you about the future of design?. 2050. Prediction is very difficult, especially if it's about the future. Designers are diagnosing society and prescribing solutions but our diagnostic tools are pretty unsophisticated.

  3. Designers are diagnosing society and prescribing solutions but our diagnostic tools are pretty unsophisticated.

  4. People are asking us to tackle bigger problems. We need new tools to do things at scale. It is no longer enough to study a handful of individuals and generalize.

  5. Our value will be assessed not only by asking….‘did we make it better?’

  7. What is the role of proof in design?

  8. What are our metrics for success?

  9. Design needs to forge new partnerships so it can have influence.

  13. What will be the new models of fabrication and new habits of consumption?

  16. Do artistshave conferences where they meet and ask, what will art be like in 40 years?

  17. If design is at it’s essence responsive, then thinking abut it too much is foolish.

  18. In 2050 design will still be telling stories, we just don’t know what these stories will say about us.

  19. In 2050 design will still be building tools, we just don’t know what these tools will do.

  20. In 2050 design will still be pushing us forward we just don’t know what we will have left behind.

  21. We do not get to determine the future, we can only try to prepare for it.
