  3. Country Flags • This is the flag of Poland. • This is the flag of Wrocław • This is the emblem of Wrocław • Wrocław's motto: Miasto Spotkań (The City Of Meetings) • The white eagle is the symbol of Poland. It is found in schools, passports, etc.

  4. Religion • Religion in Poland has changed through out the centieries. • More than 90% of Poland's population is Roman Catholic, with 80% regularly attending church. Polish Language • Total Speakers: 43 million • Language family: Indo-earopean, Slavic, West Slavic andLechitic. • Writing System: Latin

  6. Polish Food Some of the most traditional Polish dishes are: • Bigos- Cabbage with meat • Pierogi i Uszka- 2 sorts of dumplings • Gołąbki- Stuffed cabbage

  7. Sernik- Cheese cake • Makowiec- Poppy seed roll • Barszcz- Beetroot soup • Flaki- Tripe soup

Holidays and Celebrations Namedays • Most people in Poland celebrate Namedays rather than Birthdays Easter • One of the most out standing celebrations in Poland is Easter. • The ‘’ Blessing Basket ’’ is one of the most unique Easter traditions in Poland. • It is prepared on Saturday before Easter on Sunday. • The basket has colored eggs, bread, cake, salt, pepper, horse radish and white sausages. • All of these things are taken to the church to be blessed.

Christmas • Christmas Eve is another wonderful celebration in Poland. • Usually we spend the whole day preparing for Christmas Eve dinner. • We eat 12 different dishes. • Some of them are, barszcz, pierogi, kapusta, etc. • We don't eat meat because of cathlic beliefs. • Under the table we will always put some hay because little Jezus was born in the stable and slept wrapped in a blanket in hay. • Before we sit to the table we have to wait for the first star to apear in the sky. • Before we start eating everybody gets a Christmas wafer and shares it with each person while giving them wishes. • After we finish the meal, the children uswell as parents and other family members get to unpack their presents. • At midnight everybody goes to the nearest church to celebrate the midnight mass, were everybody sings joyful carols. • The next day we have a Christmas breakfast and now we can eat meat.

  10. Games We don't really have any traditional Polish games. Most of our games are just normal or very common games with a different Polish name. This is a simple Polish game called "Ciu ciu babka" translated into "Blind Woman”All you need for this game is a scarf or something to cover your eyes. The objective of the game is for the blind woman to catch somebody. When you get touched you are the new bling woman. Very simple. CiuciuBabka Zbijak This is a game like dodge ball and piggy or monkey in the middle combined together. Two people stand on the outside of the area and try to hit the people with the ball. 

  11. 2 ognie Translated into "2 fires". There are two groups on two sides of the area and one person from each group goes behind the oponents team. Then on "start" the teams start throwing balls at each other. If the ball touches you you're out. But if somebody from your team catches the ball you're back in.  Podchody Podchody translated into "trace and track". In this game there are two small groups. One of the groups runs away and draws arrows to leave a track behind them while the other team counts to ten before they set out to find them. You can also leave notes and other hints and clues if you like.

Traditional Polish Clothes • This is one of the most beautiful traditional polish clothes. • It is called the Łowicki costume. • Woman wear colourful skirts with flowers and other decorations, white shirts, a black waistcoat, black shoes, a red necklace, red shawl and plaits in the hair with colourful flowers. • Men wear black shoes, also red trousers with colourful decorations, white shirt, black waistcoat and a black hat. • There are traditional costumes for each region in Poland.

Famous People • John Paul the II, born in Wadowice, Poland, was the 264th Pope in the Roman Catholic Church. • He was the 1st and only Slavic Pope. • He was a Pope for almost 27 years until his death accured (84 years of age) on the 2nd of april 2005. • Over 2 million people came to Vatican City to mourn his death.   14. Roman Polański is a famous Polish film director, writer, actor and a producer. • He has made films like: Frantic (1988), Death and the maiden (1994), The pianist (2002), Oliver Twist (2005) and more. • The Academy Award-winnig and Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or- winning films were The pianist and Oliver Twist. Roman Polański • He was born in Toruń on the 19th of February in 1473. • He was the first person to prove that the earth revolves around the sun, not on the contrary. Nicolaus Copernicus Statue of Nicolas Copernicus in Olsztyn.

Fryderyk Chopin Fryderyk Chopin born in Żelazowa Bola near Warsaw from a Polish mother and a French expatriot father is believed to be the most talented pianist and composer of the Romanticism Period. He was also the 1st world known composer to introduce slavic elements in his works, especially his Mazurkas and Polonaises.

Famous Places Wieliczka Salt Mine The mine reaches to a depth of 327 meters, and is 300 km long. There is a special tourist route that is 3.5km long that shows hystoric and mythic figures that have been sculpted by the miners out of rock salt. Even the crystal chandaliers are made out of salt. (The island of the domes)  Today known as the oldest and the most historicle area in Wrocław. It also has the oldest bui;dings in wrocław. There is a beautiful cathedral. Ostrów Tumski

  17. Itis a famous painting picturing the battle of Racławice. The picture is spread on the walls of the Rotunda-shaped building gives viewers  the impression of participating in the battle. Panorama Racławicka • It's a brickGothicchurchbuildinthe 14th century. • It'sbesidethemain market squarein Kraków. • It'smostlyfamous for it'swoodenaltarpiececarved by VeitStoss. • Eveyhour, a trumoetsignal- calledthe "hejnal" isplayedfromthe top of St. Mary'stwotowers. • This trumpetsound is to remeber the 13th centurytrumpet player whogotshot in the throat while he was sounding a alarm before the mongolattack Mariacki Cathedral

  18. Rynek was madeinthe 13th century. Since allthoseyears Rynek hasmaintainedit'ssize and shape. It's the secondbiggestsquareaftercracowinearope. Rynek (Main Square) The City Hall inthe 14th century. (BrickGothic style) The building below was knocked down in 1864 and wasreplacedin the14th centurywith the New City Hall.

  19. Other Places The Rynek fountain Plac Solny (The Salt Market) In 1827 they put a       statueup of a field MarshalBluchera   and plac solny was namedBlücherplatz. In the salt market thereis a shelterthatis 1000 m². Themaximumnumber of peopleintheshelteris 300. Hala Stulecia (Centential Hall) alsoknown as Hala Ludowa (People's Hall) by themodernistarchitectMax Berg The People's Hall is now used for concerts and sport game such as basket ball.
