  1. Altering the Foreign Policy for Afghanistan Adam Bandur

  2. The Issue: I want to bring to attention the issue of the foreign policy in Afghanistan, mainly focusing on the war there. The war has long since been a popular war and everyday, more soldiers are wounded or killed. It has also been a huge financial problem by spending billions of dollars for the operations in the country. This war needs to be ended for not only the lives of the soldiers and their families, but because the economy can not sustain this war the way it is going.

  3. Personal Connection: My personal connection to this issue goes beyond my family. I have a cousin that was serving in Afghanistan, and I was very happy to have him return safely. That’s the problem though, many people have not returned, and that has affected me very deeply. When I hear of another soldier being killed, I feel very sorry for the families, and I could not even imagine what they are going through. So I feel more connected to this when I hear of the stories of these brave people giving their lives for the county.

  4. Info and Numbers: The war has been going on for nine years, and that recently makes it longer than the U.S. was in Vietnam for that war The U.S. has spent between $400 and $500 billion dollars in Afghanistan alone 1,733 soldiers have been killed and 15,040 have been wounded in Afghanistan

  5. What should be done: We need to stop this war and all the active fighting in the country. That will be best achieved through a massive withdrawal of our troops, leaving only enough people there to act as peace keepers. I think it is said very well in the text of the Responsible End to the War in Afghanistan Act. It states that it’s purpose is, “To provide that funds for operations of the Armed Forces in Afghanistan shall be obligated and expended only for purposes of providing for the safe and orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan of all members of the Armed Forces and Department of Defense contractor personnel who are in Afghanistan”. That means that the money going into the war, from now on, should be used only for the purpose of bringing the soldiers home as safely and as effectively as possible. This bill should do all that is needed to drastically decrease the number of casualties in Afghanistan, and be part of finally ending the war officially. I hope that the people with the authority to take these actions will listen to what the bill is purposing and agrees with me on this.
