  1. Tricks to multiplication tables x32 x2 x8 x4 x16 Using your knowledge of doubling. Mark Symmonds – Chatsworth International School, Singapore

  2. x2 What do you notice? The answer is double the number you are multiplying. 1 x 2 2 = 2 x 4 2 = 3 x 6 2 = 12 x 24 2 =

  3. So… x2 6 x 2 = 12 30 x 2 = 60 120 x 2 = 240 Just remember to double the number you are multiplying!!

  4. x4 What do you notice? Similar as the two times table except you double twice. 1 x 4 4 = 2 x 8 4 = 3 x 12 4 = 12 x 48 2 =

  5. Double Double x4 5 x 4 = 5 Hold out two fingers to help you remember how many times you have doubled. Try it on the next one. now double it… 10 and double it again… 20

  6. Double Double x4 8 x 4 = 8 now double it… Remember to hold out two fingers to help you when doubling. 16 and double it again… 32

  7. Double Double x4 20 x 4 = 20 now double it… 40 and double it again… 80

  8. x8 What do you notice? Similar to the two and four times table except you double three times. 1 x 8 8 = 2 x 16 8 = 3 x 24 8 = 12 x 96 8 =

  9. Double Double x8 5 x 8 = 5 double it once… Remember to hold out three fingers to help you when doubling. 10 double it a second time… 20 double it a third time… 40

  10. Double Double x8 30 x 8 = 30 double it once… Remember to hold out three fingers to help you when doubling. 60 double it a second time… 120 double it a third time… 240

  11. Double Double x8 52 x 8 = 52 double it once… Remember to hold out three fingers to help you when doubling. 104 double it a second time… 208 double it a third time… 416

  12. So… 2 times table you double once… 4 times table you double twice… 8 times table you double three times… So how many times would you double for the following times table if you continue the pattern? 16 times table you’d double Four Times 32 times table you’d double Five Times

  13. Try the 16 and 32 times table at home and see if you can follow the pattern. If you show me how the pattern works at home you will get an inquirer merit.
