  1. Periodic Table of the Toys Richard B. Kaner, UCLA,DMR-0453121 After a lively discussion on materials, Ms. Ratliff (top left), and students in her special education class at Thomas Edison Middle School are seen flanked by Carol Salame (top right) the President of the UCLA Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, and next to her their advisor, Ric Kaner. The students each painted an element, such as Cl for clown, to create a “Periodic Table of the Toys”. This 5’ x 8’ mural designed by Carol Salame, now hangs permanently in the first floor corridor of Edison Middle School as an inspiration to future generations of scientists.
