  1. Awaken to PresenceTransform your life workshop series Practical Implications ofPlacing Complete Trust in the Divine Dr. Eren Tatari August 2012, Orlando www.nurspirituality.org Inspired by the Twenty-Third Word, Third Point, authored by B. Said Nursi. See: Nursi, Words.

  2. Connection to the Divine with certainty (iman) is both light and power. It brings lasting inner peace. According to the level of awareness of this connection, we may feel very strong, as strong as the whole universe, and will be relieved from the pressures of life.

  3. Prophet Muhammad (p) said: “If only you put your complete trust in God, He would provide sustenance for you just as He does to the birds: They fly out in the morning empty and return in the afternoon with full stomachs.”

  4. Confirming, thinking, feeling, saying, and living “I placed my trust in God” we can journey with perfect ease and peace in the boat of life, sailing amidst the immense wavesof events.

  5. Trusting God does not mean giving up recourse to apparent causes. It means that I function with the apparent causes with the inner awareness that these causes are only forms and Divine Power is really in charge.

  6. Entrusting my affairs to God means that I have recourse to apparent causes as a form of active prayer (prayer through action) to the One who is creating these forms. Prayer is the awareness that the Divine is present and every thing is but His creation… What is critical here is cultivating the awareness that these forms (causes) are 100% dependent on the Source of Existence…

  7. As a result… In my heart, I become only concerned with the One. My heart is not torn in imagining separate powers in all the causes I interact with. My recourse is to God only, and I offer thanks to Him alone.

  8. A story illustrating the difference between the one who puts his trust in God and the one who does not: me vs. me Once upon a time, two people, with heavy loads on their back, purchased their tickets and got on a big ship. One of them released all his burdens on the deck as soon as he entered the ship, and sat on top of them to ensure their safety. The other man kept his loads on his back, and refused to put them on the deck.

  9. People told him: “Just put your heavy burden down, and be at ease.” He replied: “No way! I will not put it down! It may get damaged. Iam strong, I will keep my belongings on me.”

  10. People said again: “Listen, this ship is carrying all of us and our loads anyways, including you and your luggage. The ship is much stronger than you are, and can carry your load. If you keep your burdens on, you will get tired and weak, and perhaps you will even get dizzy and fall into the sea. Your back is bending, and your head is getting heavy, you will not be able to continue with your burdens on you for long, you will collapse. Besides, you look ridiculous.”

  11. When he heard this, the man came to his senses. He put down his load, and said: “Thank you so much! I am saved from all the trouble I was causing to myself”

  12. Let’s apply this story to our life… What is the ship? What is my burden? Who is responsible formy inner turmoil? Why is this ridiculous?

  13. Let’s apply it to any practical situation: New events arise constantly… Once they arise, I can either imagine them to be by themselves, independent of a Source… I will have to carry their burden… (illusion) I am torn… (stress!) Life becomes very difficult to bear… (prozac!)

  14. Or… I can see their reality that they can only come into existence through the Source… These events become meaningful letters from my Source… In enthusiasm, I talk withmy Absolute Conscious Source: What do you want me to do with this? Please show me what to do, and give me the strength to do it… “God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear” (Quran 2:286)

  15. Result of this awareness: I have complete confidence in the Source of everything… I don’t tremble in front any thing, because everything is just a form coming into existence by the Absolute Being… I become humble towards my Source, but very strong in front of any event... Life is notpainful anymore… It is a meaningful communication withthe Divine!

  16. We are to choose…

  17. Putting complete trust in God is the practical result of faith (connection)… How to cultivate this awareness? Contemplateon the source of events… Can they come into existence by themselves? If not, where are we? What kind of universe is this? If we recognize the Conscious Source of every thing, maybe it is time to talk to it… “We are closer to him than his jugular vein” (Quran 50:16)
