Population Focused Projects: Breast and Cervical CancerEducation and Screening • Developing culturally appropriate promotions for Mobile Mammography Unit, and an appointment reminder tool (BCCEDP– ND) • Targeting educational interventions about B/C screening for SD Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (BCCEDP)

  6. Population Focused Projects: Colorectal Cancer Screening • Planning and implementing “Woyazan kin le Anaptan” (preventing the disease that could kill you). Project to increase colorectal screening on Pine Ridge reservation (Black Hills Ctr. for AI Health – SD)

  7. Population Focused Projects:General Cancer Awareness/ Survivorship • Conducting Cancer 101 programs during Cancer Awareness Week- Turtle Mtn. Reservation (IHS) • Coordinating 1st multi-tribe Share the Care Cancer Conference ( WI tribes; Oneida, Ho-Chunk, Potawatomi) • Coordinating activities with tribal clinics, community health representatives (CHR’s), and the tribal college to provide basic cancer information and lay the groundwork for evidence-based interventions.Pine Ridge Reservation, SD • Developing partnership with Dr. Petereit’s research group to support navigators (SD,ND Walking Forward Program)

  8. Population Focused Projects: Tobacco • Developing communication links with Northern Plains Tobacco Prevention Project (SD) • Developing healthcare provider referral system to National Quit Line in collaboration with the ND Dept. of Health

CCC Projects:Crosscutting Issues • DISPARITIES • Community Readiness Assessment Project (WI) • Using Community Participatory Model to determine levels and nature of readiness to address cancer issues; then, developing community-based interventions. • Milwaukee - African American and Urban American Indians • Dane County – Latinos • Monroe County - Rural poor • Statewide - Hmong • Developing Office on Special Populations ND-Dept. of Health • On Strategy Committee to ensure consideration of cancer issues and to recruit disparities-focused partners into the planning process.

Crosscutting Projects (con’t) • ACCESS • Milwaukee Regional Cancer Care Network (WI) Leading the community resources workgroup, and participating in the literature workgroup to identify key indicators of barriers to access. A comprehensive summary report discussing the assessment findings and outlining recommendations will be disseminated to community and health leaders for action planning.
