  1. Electromagnetic Waves Chapter 12 http://school.discoveryeducation.com/lessonplans/interact/electromagneticspectrum.html

  2. Electromagnetic Waves- waves created by vibrating electric charges, can travel through a vacuum or matter. • have a wide variety of frequencies and wavelengths. • All matter contains charged particles that are always in motion, so ALL objects emit electromagnetic waves.

  3. Properties of Electromagnetic Waves • Radiant Energy- Energy carried by an electromagnetic wave. • Makes you able to see and feel warmth. Wave Speed- 300,000km/s “speed of light” Travel slowest in solids, fastest in gases. • Photon- particle that explains how electromagnetic waves energy depends on frequency of the waves.

  4. Electromagnetic Spectrum • Range of Frequencies: 1. Radio • Microwaves • Radar • MRI’s • Infrared • Visible Light • Ultraviolet • X Rays and Gamma Rays
