  2. What we will do today • Go over the syllabus • Digress into a discussion of IUPUI and You • Have a brief introduction into accounting information systems

  3. What are we going to do this term? • Learn how to diagram a system (flowcharts, DFDs, and ERDs) • Learn about control issues important to accountants • Learn about how accounting “works” through semester long project • Learn about database structures (with attention to accounting issues) and some hands-on work

  4. Syllabus & Materials • Class notes • Will be available on Oncourse • NEED TO BRING SOME WITH YOU TO CLASS • Systems Understanding • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access

  5. Schedule - the way things work • Regular updates/modifications to they syllabus will be on ONCOURSE • Links to Notes/Slides with dates • YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE

  6. Assignments • Please READ the assignment details in Oncourse Assignments for each assignment THEN ask questions. • I will THEN answer any questions you have about the details in Oncourse Assignments

  8. Exams • Exam 1 • Documenting business processes • Internal control and computer crime • Exam 2 • Database management concepts • Special topics: SDLC, BI, ERP, XBRL

  9. Systems Understanding Aid • Available at the bookstore; DO NOT buy a used one. • Due date and further information • Okay to work in pairs but you are responsible for own work/submissions (all other assignment are individual)
