  2. Monday, April 7, 2014 Practice Prior Skills To practice recognizing and a apply noun clauses in sentences through diagramming – Due at the beginning of class Wednesday. Please use your own print- out or digital copy of Power Point. Quietly study another subject of your choice if you finish early. Learning Goals • Underline the adjective clause in the following sentence: • I think that the students are smart. • (The above is a noun clause used as a direct object)

  3. Independently, diagram the following sentences. The answers are provided on the following slides if you are confused, but don’t just copy. We will have a diagramming quiz Friday, April 11th. 1. Where one of my socks had gone was a mystery. (Noun Clause = Subject) 2. I wonder how I lost it. (Noun Clause = Direct Object) 3. My mom knew where I lost my sock because she found it in the dryer. 4. Now I'm dressed, and I'll go with whoever is ready. 5. Wherever we are going will be wonderful.

  9. Tuesday, April Practice Prior Skills Learning Goals To practice recognizing independent clauses as well as various dependent clauses, such as adjective, adverb and noun clauses. This will be due at the beginning of class tomorrow. Remember to study another subject if you finish early. • Underline the noun clause in the following sentence: • Mrs. Caple knows that her students are capable.

  10. Place the dependent clause in parentheses and label the type of clause – Adj., Adv. Or noun. Then diagram each sentence. • Mary is not responsible for what the other students did. • The students don't know that school will dismiss late. • Because the students studied, they made an “A” on the exam. • The student who sits on the first row will help the substitute. • The park, which is beautiful, has a dog obstacle course. • The team won the game since they followed the coach’s plays. • It is imperative that students print or bring the PowerPoint to class. • Unless it rains, the team will practice today. • The desk, which almost broke, is located on the front row. • The students presumed they could eat in class even though it was not Friday.

  16. Thursday, April 10, 2014 Practice Prior Skills Learning Goals To review all parts of a sentence and diagramming noun clauses by having a review competition. Noun Clause Diagramming quiz tomorrow. • Write a sentence that contains a noun clause (this means the clause needs to contain a subject and a verb, and play the role of the subject, IO, DO, OP, or PN).

  17. Review Competition • Break into cooperative learning groups. ‘ • Group one will choose a sentence to challenge another group. If the challenged group gets it right, then challenged group gets a point and then they choose a group to be challenged. If they get it wrong the Group diagrams it, if they get it right they get the point. If they get it wrong then it is Group 2’s turn to challenge.
