2. The Third Aspect “See with what lofty wisdom and ordering affairs are managed, and with what true justice and balance transactions are effected! Now a wise polity requires that those who seek refuge under the protecting wing of the state should receive favour, and justice demands that the rights of subjects be preserved, so that the splendour of the state should not suffer. But here in this land, not a thousandth part of the requirements of such wisdom and justice is fulfilled; for example, empty-headed people such as yourself usually leave this realm unpunished. So again we say, matters are postponed for the consideration of a Supreme Tribunal.”

The Third Aspect This aspect draws our attention again to the order, balance, purpose in the universe Order and balance point to justice Order and balance, hence justice, always point to purpose and wisdom Just one example of order, hence justice, in the universe is the genetic code. We can easily see here how order points directly to purpose and wisdom. Other examples include the countless ‘systems’ and processes we see on the Earth, at the micro level of cells and atoms, as well as the macro level of planets and solar systems

The Third Aspect Thus, in this universe, we see all-encompassing justice, which points to a lofty wisdom This in turndemonstratesthat the universe is governed by a Perfectly Just and All-Wise Ruler Just and Wise Rulership necessitate that those who need help, favour and protection receive it, and that those who transgress the bounds of justice are held to account, while those whose rights are infringed upon are compensated Since we see only limited justice and recompense in relation to human beings, whilst there’s perfect justice and wisdom in the rest of the universe, it’s clear that the affairs of us humans are deferred to the Hereafter. Our judgment and recompense will be there.

A word on fairness versus balance Can we validly say that the balance and order we see in the universeisrelated to the concept of fairness and justice in the human context? ‘Fairness’ is merely one aspect of justice Justice means proper balance and proportion, or the placement of things in their rightful place The ‘rightful place’ is in turn dependent on purpose, hence wisdom ‘Fairness’, which is relevant only to beings like us, really amounts to ‘balance’

6. A word on fairness versus balance In the context of human social, political and justice systems, like our taxation system for example, fairness just means balance or ‘equality’. Persons who earn the same income, and whose other circumstances are the same, pay equal tax. If they didn’t, it would be considered ‘unfair’. Similarly, in legal systems, the concept of ‘fairness’ is predicated on the belief that all humans possess equal ‘rights’ – thus the term ‘equality’ is often used. ‘Equality’ again, amounts to balance and proportion. Thus, fairness, in the human context, is not a separate concept to ‘balance’, ‘justice’ or even ‘order’ in the universal sense.
