At a Glance • Location: Within the Scenic Loop, just before mile 11 at Pine Creek Trailhead • Length: ¾ miles round trip for loop only; 1¼ miles round trip total • Difficulty: Easy-Moderate; 300 foot elevation gain • Estimated Minimum Hike Time: 50 minutes • Facilities: Two vault toilets at trailhead. No water available.

  4. What is Fire Ecology? Fire Ecology looks at fire and how it effects the plants, animals, and ecosystem. Fire is an important and natural part of nature. Sometimes we set small fires known as prescribed burns to prevent big forest fires from happening later. That’s been done on part of this trail.

  6. The beginning is steep. Be careful!

  7. There are some interesting rocks along the way

  8. It’ll be more flat from now on

  9. Starting the loop part of the trail

  10. There’s a couple of stairs Stairs

  11. Then it loops around

  12. The dry creek bed

  13. Across and back on the trail

  14. There’s some signs

  15. Then we loop back around

  16. Up a couple of stairs Stairs

  17. To the end of the loop part of the trail

  18. We’re almost done

  19. Just have to make it back up the hill!

  20. You can do it!

  21. We made it!

  22. Now it’s the lizard’s turn to hike!
