  2. About Symbiotic Relationships For parasitism the symbiont is helped but the host isn’t. For example, the flea, host any household pet, makes them itchy and miserable. For mutualism both the symbiont and the host are helped. For example: the bird, the host is the deer. The bird eats all the bugs and ticks off the deer and also gets a meal. For commensalism the host is helped, but the symbiont is not effected. For example the anemone crab is a filter feeding to the porcelain crab.

  3. Parasitism Parasites make life hard for the host, human, cat, or dog. Hookworms, host cat, can cause heart failure. The hookworm affects the cat from feet up. They can also affect humans. Leashmonea, host human, hijacks the immune cells and then lays eggs. This parasite travels the blood stream and if it reaches your face it can literally eat off your face. Itch Mite, host, human, will eat the skin, causes itching. The female itch mite burrows into the skin and lays eggs. Flea, host dogs or cats, burrowing in and making them itch. Tick, host any animal, attaches to them and drinks their blood.

  4. Mutualism Mutualism is where both the host and the symbiont are helped. Bird, host a deer, the bird eats all the pesky bugs and ticks off the deer, but he also gets a meal. Oxpecker, host a buffalo, the oxpecker eats all the bugs and stuff off the buffalo, while getting a meal as well. The bird is also offered a perch. Clown Fish, host the sea anemone, the clown fish cleans the anemone. The tentacles on the sea plant have poison in them but the fish has a slick coating that allows it to go in and out and in return has a home.

  5. Commensalism Commensalism is where one is helped and the other is not effected. One example is, the Anemone crabis a filter feeding Porcelain crab. Another example is, the Pearl fish spends the day inside thealimentary tract[intestines] of the sea cucumber and at night emerges to feed on small crustaceans.
