  1. More Factor Label Practice! • In the following slides, there are 9 conversion problems. You must complete at least 5 of these conversions. • Show your work on a separate sheet of paper, label your answers and round them to the correct number of sig figs!

  2. Largest Plate Inserted in Human Skull This metal plate measures 1.5x10-4 km by 4.3 inches. Convert both of these measurements into cm. HINT: 2.54 cm = 1 inch Tom Thompson (USA) had a titanium plate inserted into the left side of his head by neurosurgeons at DeKalb General Hospital, Decatur, Georgia, USA on April 30, 1971. The surgery took place after he had been struck by a car and pronounced dead on arrival at the local hospital.

  3. Largest Millipede This millipede measures 15.24 in. How many legs does the millipede have if it has an average of 6.615 legs / cm of length? The largest millipede in the world is a full grown African giant black millipede (Archispirostreptus gigas) which is owned by Jim Klinger of Coppell, Texas, USA.

  4. Largest Burger Sold Commercially The largest hamburger sold commercially weighs 74750 grams. Convert this to pounds. HINT: 1 lb = 0.4536 kg The largest commercially available hamburger is available for $399 on the menu at Mallie's Sports Grill & Bar in Southgate, Michigan, USA, as of 29 August 2008.

  5. Marathon Haile Gebrselassie from Ethiopia holds the record for the fastest marathon with a time of 7438.8 seconds. A marathon is 26.2 miles. Calculate Gebrselassie’s average time in minutes per mile for the duration of the marathon. HINT: you will have 2 units that do not cancel out (min and miles)

  6. According to the Guinness World Records, the largest tumor ever removed intact weighed 138,000 grams. Convert this to pounds. One pound is equal to 0.4536 kg. It was removed in 1991 and the woman patient made a full recovery. I tried to find a picture of this, but was unsuccessful!

  7. Kim Goodman (USA) can pop her eyeballs to a protrusion of 0.47 inches beyond her eye sockets. Her eyes were measured in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 2, 2007. Convert this distance to mm. HINT: 2.54 cm = 1 inch

  8. Anthony Victor (India) has hair sprouting from the centre of his outer ears (middle of the pinna) that measures 181 mm at its longest point. Convert this to inches.

  9. Lee Redmond (USA), who has not cut her nails since 1979, has grown and carefully manicured them to reach a total length of 8.65 m as measured on the set of Lo show dei record in Madrid, Spain, on 23 February 2008. The longest nail is the right thumb: 90 cm. Convert this distance to feet. HINT: 2.54 cm = 1 inch
