  4. Classroom Rules They will be created and designed by YOU! ***We will do this a little later.

  5. Morning Procedures

  6. Get to School on Time! At 8:20 a.m. you will be greeted at the door of the classroom by one of your teachers. You will make eye contact and say, “good morning.” If it is after 8:20 a.m., YOU are late!

  7. Upon Entering the Classroom… 1. Un-stack your chair 2. Unpack your backpack and place it in the closet (this will be the ONLY time you may go into your backpack) 3. Place your blue and yellow folders in two separate piles on your desk 4. Table monitors ONLY will bring them to the back baskets 5. Place any notes from home in our desk basket 5. DO NOT talk to your teachers 5. DO start your Do Now .

After 8:20a.m. • Talking is OFF! • If you have a pressing issue to address with one of your teachers, write it on a post-it and post on the edge of your desk. • Work on Do Now • LATE? • If you arrive late, unpack quickly and • silently • Bring your blue and yellow folders • to the back baskets and begin the • Do Now

  10. Agenda Notebook • Bring agenda notebook to class EVERYDAY • Record homework • Record word study words • MONDAY: goal statement • FRIDAY: assess your goal

  11. Agenda Notebook What goes in it?? • Homework • Word Study Words • Class announcements • Schedule reminders • Blog address (and password) • Website address • Classmates phone numbers

  12. Classroom Signals - “ W ” for water - “ R ” for restroom - “ T ” for tissue ***You will use these hand signals so the teacher doesn’t have to stop teaching. There is NEVER a reason to be out of your seat without using a signal

  13. Classroom Signals • - I agree or I was thinking the same thing! - You need to state that again in a complete sentence. ROLLING ARMS – You can do it! Keep going!

  14. Classroom Signals • MOST IMPORTANT CLASSROOM SIGNAL: When you see a fist raised, you immediately raise your fist in response. This is a call to SILENCE! When you are doing group work, a bell will ring to signal the silence response.

  15. Questions and Answers • Raise your hand quietly • We will only call on QUIET hands • When someone is called on, put your hand down and actively listen to what is said

Hmmmmmmmmmm… • You are tracking the speaker • Turn your body and put your eyes on the person speaking • Your bottom is on your chair • Your feet are on the floor • Your hands are still • Your pencil is down • Your body is still • Let’s practice!

Restroom Procedures • Use in the morning before 8:20AM and at • lunch • Use hand signals to ask during class (DO NOT ask • during lessons) • Sign out with name and time • Turn the sign to OCCUPIED • Walk quietly to the restroom • Wash your hands with soap • Leave the restroom clean • Sign back in with time • Turn sign to VACANT

Water Procedures • Drink water in the morning before 8:20AM and at lunch • You may keep a bottle of water on • your desk (water ONLY) • Use hand signals to ask during class • DO NOT ask during lessons • Walk quietly to the water fountain • One person at a time • Quickly and quietly return to your seat and continue working

  19. CLASS JOBS • Class jobs are assigned at the beginning of each month • Choice is determined by the teachers; we may use a math problem or award based on class behavior • Jobs must be taken seriously and completed in a timely manner

Pencils • Pencil Sharpener will sharpen pencils in the morning ONLY before 8:20am • It is your responsibility to bring two sharpened pencils to class EACH DAY • If your pencil breaks: • Hold up your pencil to signal a teacher • Quietly walk to back of room • Put your pencil in UNSHARPENED • bucket • Take pencil from SHARPENED • bucket

  21. Paper • Writing paper is in back in the writing station (draft, publishing, etc.) • You may get paper as you need it. If it is during class you need to ask permission • On EVERY assignment, your heading should have: ** Name **Date

Desk Sharing • You will be sharing desk space with other students • Do not leave personal items on desk • The only items on your desk should be your pencil holder and your desk box • (the desk box contains table supplies) • Your desk top should always be clear, unless you are instructed by us to leave work out for review • Keep the inside of your desk neat and organized “Mi casa es su casa” ~ “My house is your house.”

  23. Lining Up • Clear desk quietly • Wait for your table to be called • Quietly stand and push in your chair • Quietly walk to the line • Stand facing front, arms at sides, eyes facing front • There is NO TALKING on line. Period. EVER.

  24. Walking in Line • Walk quietly • Arms at your side • Stand directly behind the person in front of you – straight line! • There is NO TALKING in the hallway. EVER.

  25. Lunch • Line up in order • Lunches will be handed out by the • monitor • Remain seated in the lunchroom • unless otherwise instructed • Quiet voices • Respect the lunchroom staff • Clean-up your table area • Bring a book or work

  26. Lunch Release • Lunch release is a privilege • Lunch release is earned • Class behavior and completed homework are important factors • Lunch release can be given and/or taken away at any time

What to do when your done with my class work??? • Read a book • Work on word study assignments • Work on your math FAST FACTS • Work on your Goal Statement • Write about the Weekly Message • Write about the Quote of the Week • Write about Today In History… • Work on other assignments MOST IMPORTANTLY: Don’t disturb others!!!! I’m done Finished!

Group and Partner Work • Groups and partners are thoughtfully assigned • Do not ask to work with another person/group • If you have a serious issue, speak with us privately or drop a note in the “Things I Want You to Know” box • These are not optional placements • DO NOT ask to work outside - this is a privilege given by us • Noise must be kept at a low level

  29. Desk Work • You will often be asked to work with your desk mates • You have a number assigned to you on your desk (1,2,3 or 4) • We will use these numbers during lessons so that finding a partner is easy • We will also use these numbers for particular group activities

  30. Stability Balls • Some of the chairs in our room have been replaced by stability balls • Some may be assigned to particular students permanently as the year progresses • Others will rotate, giving everyone a chance to use them • We will let you know the schedule so you do not have to ask

When You Are Called to the Meeting Area: • Silently gather materials needed • Stand quietly • Push in your chair • Sit next to your partner for that subject • Sit with back straight • Eyes front • Materials on floor in front of you • Quietly wait for instruction to begin • Let’s see if we can beat last years record!

  32. When You Are Called to Morning Meeting: • Clear your desk • Stand and push in chairs • Come to the center and make a quiet circle • Make sure everyone can find a spot • Wait for the teachers to begin

  33. Class Library • Check out will take place in morning • You will be assigned a day to go to the library • You will be expected to read at your level for in class work and homework • Take out a minimum of three books to last you the week

  34. Classroom Library We will go over these procedures in the classroom.

  35. Conferencing • When we are conferencing with a student we are INVISIBLE to you • Unless someone is in a dangerous situation DO NOT interrupt • Yes, not even for a “quick question” • You are smart enough to figure out what you need by yourself, with the help of a partner or our co-teacher

  36. Homework • Reading every night for 40 minutes • Math, Writing or SS, and Word Study daily • Record your homework assignments in your agenda each day • If homework is missing or incomplete, you will receive a pink slip

  37. What is a Pink Slip?AKA, The Student Responsibility Card • A pink slip is sent home when homework is not completed • It lets your parents or guardians know which homework is missing • It gives you an opportunity to explain why you did not complete your assignment • It must be signed and returned the next day

  38. Goal Statement • Written in agenda notebook every Friday • Goal statement should begin with one of the following statements: • This week I tried … • This week I improved… • I want to work more on… This will help your teachers and parents understand the goals you are working on in school.

  39. Absent … Now what? • It’s YOUR responsibility to check on the website or with another student if you are absent • Homework is posted on the website nightly and much of it can be completed whether you were in class or not • If there are handouts, they will be kept in a folder near the folder baskets for you to get upon your return • If you are too sick to complete your work, you have ONE day for each day you were absent to make up the work

  40. Specials Art Music P.E. Computer Science • Line-up in number order • All class rules will be followed • Bring your lunch • MAKE US PROUD!

  41. Visitors or Guests in the Classroom • Sit quietly • Continue working as you normally would • Be polite and respectful • IMPRESS THEM!!! Hello Hola Bonjour

  42. We Recycle • Paper goes in the BLUE bin • Notebook paper • Computer paper • News paper • Plastic Bottles • Water bottles • Aluminum Can • Soda cans Go in the BROWN bin

  43. Fire Drills • Stop everything immediately • Quietly line up • Exit through the door and walk down the back staircase • Stay with class at all times • Remain ABSOLUTELY silent • Walk quickly and quietly back to the classroom • Return to the classroom task

  45. Backpacks • By table (as called), get your backpack from the closet • Return to your seat • Look at the “What you need” board • Pack ALL necessary books/work • Stack chair once you are packed • Stand silently behind chair to wait for line-up

  46. Clean your Area • Clean your area EVERYDAY!!! • Straighten the materials in your desk • Clear your desk • Clean the floor around your desk • Put any materials you have away • ***Ask yourself – Does the room look as good as it did this morning???

  47. Leaving for the Day • Walk down stairs together • Afterschool kids at the front of the line • In order to leave the line, you MUST give your teacher a hand shake so they know you have left the line! Ciao! Goodbye See you later! Cheerio! Adios
