  4. Baseball • Baseball is called ‘America’s Pastime’ • Two teams play each other • The game is 9 innings long, • An ‘inning’ is a round, or quarter – an amount of time • Players swing a bat at a ball, trying to hit it out of the park, or field

  6. American Football • American Football is another game with two teams playing each other • It is a contact sport • Players will run into each other, and jump on each other, which is called tackling • If you run the ball into the goal, it is worth 6 points, if you kick it, it is worth 3 points

  8. Football (Soccer) • Americans call football ‘soccer’ • The game has two teams that try to kick the ball into each others goal • The game is played on a field • Only one player may touch the ball, the goalkeeper, or goalie

  9. Ice Hockey

  10. Ice Hockey • Hockey is a game played on ice, or frozen water • Players wear ice skates to move around • Two teams try to hit a puck into the other teams goal • Players wear lots of pads, because they often fall down and also get into fights

  12. Golf • Golf is a game that is played on a golf course • A golf course will usually have 18 holes • Players try to hit their golf ball into the hole in as little shots as possible

  14. Skiing • Skiing is a sport that happens on snow • People go to the top of a mountain and ski down • When people compete against each other, they try to ski at as fast a time as possible

  16. Swimming • Swimming is a sport that takes place in a swimming pool • When people swim against each other, like in the Olympics, they try to swim very fast • There are a lot of ways to swim • Backstroke • Breaststroke • Butterfly

  18. Running • Everyone knows about running • When people compete, they try and run as fast as they can • Lots of people like to wear special running shoes • People can run on tracks or in parks, and even mountains

  19. Billiards, or Pool

  20. Billiards, or Pool • Pool is a game played on a table • The table has six holes, and players try and hit the 16 balls into the holes, or pockets • One player hits striped balls, the other hits solid balls • The last ball each tries to hit in is the 8-ball
