  1. The Circulatory System By: Joshua,Thomas,Ronan, and George

  2. The Heart • Your heart is a vital organ that pumps your blood throughout your whole entire body. • Your system of blood vessels like arteries, veins and capillaries is over 60,000 miles long. • Also, blood only takes about 20 seconds to circulate throughout the entire vascular system!

  3. Components of Blood • Your blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. • Red blood cells, are relatively large microscopic cells. • Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to the tissues around your body.  • They are also a key player in getting waste carbon dioxide from your tissues to your lungs, where it can be exhaled out.

  4. The Structure of The Heart • Your heart has four chambers, the upper chambers are called the left and right atria, and the lower chambers are called the left and right ventricles. • A wall of muscle called septum separates the left and right atria, and the left and right ventricles.

  5. Components of Blood part 2 • White blood cells are soldiers, because they fight illnesses, bacteria, funguses and viruses. • Platelets are important because they clot the blood when you have a cut. • Plasma is a liquid that makes all the cells flow.

  6. Heart Facts • Your heart beats about 100,000 times in one day, and about 35 million times in a year! • Also during an average lifetime, the human heart will beat more than 2.5 billion times! • The heart pumps about 1 million barrels of blood during an average lifetime! That's enough to fill more than 3 super tankers!

  7. Veins vs. Arteries • Veins carry deoxygenated (no oxygen) blood.

  8. How to Keep Your Heart Healthy • To keep your heart healthy, eat healthy foods like vegetables, and fruits. • Another way to keep your heart healthy is to not smoke, and not drink. • Also to keep your heart healthy exercise regularly but not hard.
