What is a SHSM? • The SHSM program allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements for the OSSD. • It along the way helps students prepare to make the transition from secondary school to apprenticeship, college, university or workplace. • A SHSM enables students to gain sector specific skills and knowledge in the context of engaging, career related learning environments and helps them focus on graduation and post secondary goals.

  3. Health & Wellness • Students who complete the requirements will receive a SHSM seal with their OSSD. • In addition all students who participate will receive an SHSM Record which documents their achievement of the required components.

  4. SHSM Credits Required • 4 Health & Wellness Major Credits (PE, Religion, Dance, Leadership & Science) • 3 CLA Credits (1 English, 1 Math & 1 Science) • 2 Co-op Credits (Tied to any course above)

  5. SHSM Mandatory Certifications • Standard First Aid • CPR – Level C • WHMIS • Infection Control

  6. SHSM 3 Choice Certifications • Leadership Training (Muskoka) • Ropes Training • IDC Leadership Activities • Coaching Level 1 • Safe Food Handling • Babysitting • Conflict Resolution • Personal Trainer or Dance Instruction

  7. Experiential Learning Reach Ahead Experiences • Job Shadowing • Muskoka Woods • Guest Speakers

  8. Experiential Learning Reach Ahead Experiences • Youth Leadership Camp (YLCC) • Workshops ex. Me to We

  9. Experiential Learning Reach Ahead Experiences • University or College Tours • Student Council & SAA Leadership • Special Events (Super Six Shootout)
