  2. Outline • Background of GhanaInfo Database • Challenges • Linkages with CountryData • Way forward

  3. Background • Launched in 2005 and managed GSS and NDPC with direction from UNICEF • Evolved from DI4.0 and now DI7.0 • Day to day management of the Db has been with GSS team. • A unit/section managed the DB with help from National Service personnel

  4. Background cont’d • Held monthly meetings (GSS & NDPC) to update members on progress. • Attended series of training programs on updates and new innovations. • Regular updates by administrator • Funded by UNICEF mostly.

  5. Challenges - Institutional • Restructuring of GSS resulted in movement of staff to different units though committed to GID • Workload of team members shelves GID activities to background. • Team works effectively offsite but funding gap (GOG vrs Donor). • Oversight committee meetings not regular. • Staffing

  6. Challenges- System • Update of boundaries not in incorporated in DI system because maps not ready. • Inclusion of different indicators not based on any national agenda. • Inconsistencies in data sources • Administration of DB changed over time

  7. Linkages with CountryData • Good and efficient linkage between the DBs • Series of training showed GID has to be reorganized • Inconsistencies has to be rectified/corrected for efficient transfer of information
