Manual and mechanical handling hazards and control After reading this chapter you should be able to: • Describe the hazards and the risk factors which should be considered when assessing risks from manual handling activities • Outline ways of minimizing manual handling risk • Identify the hazards and explain the precautions and procedures to ensure safety in the use of lifting and moving equipment with specific reference to fork-lift trucks, manually operated load-moving equipment (sack trucks, pallet trucks), lifts, hoists, conveyors and cranes.
