Opening Notes: Time, Place, and Ideas • Time: • Historical: The time that influenced the creation of the building. • How does the time period influence the design of the building? • Place: • Physical Context: The area on which the building is constructed. • How does where the building is built affect the structure? • Ideas: • Culture: The culture that influenced the creation of the building. • What defining characteristics of the period influence the design of the structure?

  3. Your Assignment • Research a building and analyze how it is an example of the time period that made it. • See prompt.

What is due today? • Your topic of study • Your thesis statement • “Building so and so reflect the defining characteristics of “so and so” time period through its use of ________________, __________, and _______________ to “propaganda of building.” • Your thesis needs the following: • Topic • Claim (nouns) • Directions (how is the claim going to be proved). • Note: You must put adjectives in front of the directions; however, make sure you know what you’re doing before you add adjectives. • Have a qualifier • Why is it done? • “in order to, to reveal, proving” • An outline of how you plan to prove that your building is from the particular time period: • “So and so building is from the Neoclassical period because ….” and give the three reasons from the two sources you have, • Follow the format of the outline presented on your assignment sheet.
