  3. Teacher Expectations • I will work on identifying your student’s needs and differentiating the learning to the best of my ability. Each student has different needs and therefore will be addressed accordingly. • Guided Reading • Students are placed in groups with their peers who are within similar abilities and will be given small group instruction daily within these groups • Math • Inquiry Math focus: • 99+99+99 • Lots of in class work and discussions • Parents will be notified if a student is starting to fall behind to develop a plan to get them back on track

  4. Discipline Procedures • Verbal Warning • Written Warning • Student signs conduct folder and loses a grade • Sent to office and parent notified

  5. 5th Grade Opportunities • Student Council • Math Bowl • Spell Bowl • Peer Mentors • D.A.R.E. • January-March/April • 10 weeks • Junior Achievement

Field Trips • Gibson Woods • Fall • Science Ecosystems • Challenger Center • May 29-30 (one of the days or split) • Science Space mission • 5th Grade Social • With 5th grade from Jane Ball to have a meet and greet at the end of the school year. • MS Tour • At the end of the year to look forward to middle school and receive information from principal and other support staff.

  7. Agenda Books • Will be filled out daily with homework and upcoming quizzes, tests, or projects • Will not need to be signed unless late homework is consistently a problem • Will usually be available online • http://www.hanover.k12.in.us//Domain/343

Conduct Grades • We will be using conduct strips attached to the desk • Conduct grades are every two weeks. • Conduct Grades are based on: • Following school rules • Paying attention • Work on time and prepared for class • Respecting adults and peers • Working without causing disruption • Contributing to discussions • Showing initiative • Talking only at appropriate times • Cooperating with others and respecting their rights • Helping to keep the school and classroom clean and orderly

  9. Parties • Fall: October 30, 2013 • Holiday: December 19, 2013 • Winter: February 13, 2014 • Further details on parties will be sent home prior to the event. • The students plan and execute the parties.

  10. A few extra notes… • Late work will be 2 points per day and a lost conduct letter • Homework is extremely important! It accounts for 50% of a student’s final grade in most subjects. • If your student is finishing the work in school, but you see late work appearing or low grades, please tell them to bring it home even if they finish in school so it can be checked. • I mark it in PowerSchool with a yellow M (missing) or red L (received late) • Make up work from absences will be number of days absent=number of days to make up • 3 days absent = 3 days to make up • Spiral for art class
