  8. Limits Learning Capabilities • REM sleep increased production of proteins and decreased the rates at which they are broken down • Proteins – generates neuron • Synapses • Lack of sleep = reduced number of synapses

  9. Increase in Dopamine • Dopamine is a neurotransmitter • Regulate movement and emotional response • Too much – • Cause brain to shut down the region for planning and decision making • Impulsive behavior • Equivalent to being drunk

  10. Weaken Immune System Reduce ability to produce immune cell Also reduce growth hormones and the ability to metabolize glucose
