  8. Education Financing History 1973 Major effort at reform eliminated reliance on local property taxes and negative aids. Court challenge – reforms ruled unconstitutional because they were unfair to taxpayers.

Education Financing History 2000 Wisconsin Supreme Court defines state school standard: “Wisconsin students have a fundamental right to an equal opportunity to a sound basic education…that will equip students for their roles as citizens and enable them to succeed economically and personally.”

AEF Goals Work with the Legislature to… • Provide equal access to state and local revenues so that all school districts have the same the ability to invest in a K-12 education for their kids • Provide additional funds on a continuing basis to meet the additional needs of the three student populations cited in our new standard.
