Your world.Your chance to make it better. • How many of you want money for college? • How many of you would like an opportunity for a full-time position with health care and childcare benefits? • How many of you want to gain experience working with young people?

What is AmeriCorps? • National Service Program signed into law by President Clinton in 1993 • Members serve with over 3000 nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based and community organizations each year. • 20,000 members served in the first AmeriCorps class of 1994 • Currently over 70,000 members serve each year

AmeriCorps Programs • AmeriCorps State and National • AmeriCorps*VISTA The largest of AmeriCorps programs, it uses national service to address critical community needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. • AmeriCorps*NCCC Program designed specifically to fight poverty. Members placed in nonprofits and public agencies work to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups and much more. The mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service.

BAYAC AmeriCorps • Bay Area Counties: San Francisco; Santa Clara: San Jose, Mountain View; San Mateo: Redwood City, East Palo Alto; Alameda: Berkeley, Oakland; West Contra Costa: Richmond; Marin: San Rafael • Youth: work directly with the youth as tutors, mentors, gardeners, health educators, after-school enrichment providers. • Agency Consortium: BAYAC partners with 30 nonprofit community-based organizations with similar missions.

  5. Qualifications for BAYAC • 17 years or older • High school diploma, GED or working towards a GED • US citizen or legal permanent resident • Strong desire to work with youth and community • Ability to tutor/mentor youth • Strong commitment to professional growth and development

  6. Benefits • $5,350 educational award (seehttp://www.americorps.gov/for_individuals/benefits/benefits_ed_award.asp for more information) • Earn approximately $1200 per month prior to taxes • Health insurance through SRC/AETNA (dental and vision included) • Child care assistance (if eligible) • College loan deference • Excellent training and full-time job experience working with youth
